The Children Deliver Hopes by Singing in a Chorus
Á¦ 129 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.11.28
The Make-A-Wish Choir sang with sick children
The Jirani Children's Choir joined in song with the poor Kenyan children

Choruses have boomed in Korea last year and this year. The reason is the choir project of 'The Qualities of a Man', which is a KBS TV program. The Youth Choir season two was special because the choir members were older than 52. Despite the hard chorus practices, they accomplished the splendid achievement of winning silver medals at the KBS Chorus Grand Festival. The Youth Choir gave hope for the aged as well as many people.
The members of the Jirani Children's Choir and the Make-A-Wish Choir are Kenyan children and children with life-threatening medical conditions. They were in a difficult situation, but they sing to deliver hope for people such as the Youth Choir.

Introduction of the Jirani Children's Choir
The choir's name 'Jirani' means 'good neighborhood' in Swahili. The reason why the founder named their choir 'good neighborhood' is to help the children to be future leaders. All members of the Jirani Children's Choir are composed of Kenyan children. Many people of Kenya in the African Continent subsist by rummaging through a big trash heap. The children who didn't know the heptatonic scale such as do, re and mi were given hope and learned about the world through the chorus. Furthermore, they are learning how to love and to be loved. Now, they hope to play roles of messengers of hope for many people in the world through their voices and songs.

Interview of the Jirani Children's Choir's chief
I founded the Jirani Children's Choir to give hope and dreams to Kenyan children. On December 6, 2005, I traveled around the poor countries and met Kenyan children. Many children were foraging for food to prolong their life in a big rubbish heap as if in search for treasure. I was immensely shocked when I saw the children's situation. The children didn't have hope or a future. I wanted to give  hope to the children.
After that, I started preparations to find the Jirani Children's Choir. When people listened to my plan at first, they looked at me as if I was crazy. In those days, Kenya didn't have a choir because it was hard to receive aid. However, heaven thankfully sent me an angel, Choi Chang-hee, who is a minister. He donated a lot of money to the Jirani Children's Choir. Thanks to him, we could start the choir.
Whenever many audience members listen to the children' songs, they have a deep impression. The responses from the audience members are that they get goose bumps or are moved to tears. Also, they are ashamed of themselves because they always complained about their lives. I want the audience members to have hope after listening to the children' songs.
I am very happy that the children are beginning to have hopes and dreams through the chorus. Also, their behavior improved. When they began to sing in the choir at first, they didn't line up at all, but now they are professional choir members. I hope they will love the poor people of the world when they become adults. We compare the children to flowers. Children who are seeds will be in full bloom and bear fruits. In other words, I have no doubt that they will express love within themselves.

Introduction of the Make-A-Wish Choir
The members of the Make-A-Wish Choir are children with life-threatening medical conditions and achieved their wishes through the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
The Make-A-Wish Choir is composed of children with life-threatening medical conditions. The purpose of this choir is to give confidence to other children with life-threatening medical conditions. The premier performance of the Make-A-Wish Choir was successfully held on Sep. 30th this year. The performance was more special because the show was for other sick friends.
Among the members of the Make-A-Wish Choir, some children were hard pressed to sing songs because of their bad health. Children with muscular diseases especially have difficulty breathing and singing. The symptoms are characteristics of the disease. However, they practiced very hard until they were all in a sweat. The Make-A-Wish Choir is giving hope to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Kim Eo-jin, a 13 year-old girl, has muscular dystrophy. Muscular dystrophy is a disease which stiffens the muscles of the arms and the legs by protein deficiency. Finally, the disease immobilizes the whole body. The girl had never sung before the chorus activity. However, she can now sing a song in front of audience and her specialty is singing now.
'Tell me you can do it' is a song's title of the Make-A-Wish Choir. The following is a part of the lyrics: you can do everything even when you are in a difficult situation once you have a big dream and a good heart. This is what children with life-threatening medical conditions want to tell the world.
Yu Myeong-yeol, the Make-A-Wish Choir's chief, said, "People are usually reluctant to touch children with near-death medical conditions." Then, he added that they are actually equal to their peers except they have fatal illnesses. Furthermore, he said that he wants people to put away their prejudices that the children can not do anything and to hopefully encourage those children by saying to them, "You can do it!"
