¡°In this age where academic intelligence is valued more than other aptitudes, I have grown up with the ability to study well better than others, and I can therefore stay here as a professor.¡± This is what the professor, who gave a lecture about meritocracy, which refers to the notion that ability can be the dominant force in society, said to the students. In a society that recognized Korea¡¯s overheated ranking of universities and meritocracy as a worthwhile value and consequently considers the process of entering prestigious universities successful, I who had never thought about the fairness of the ability itself was shocked by what the professor said.

This year, the issue that captured the attention of students, professors, and staff at CBNU was undoubtedly the Glocal University 30 Project. CBT has consistently covered and reported on this issue since April. Our coverage includes the initial glocal briefing session held on July 3 for students, 6 small-scale briefing sessions, demonstrations by the student council and the Student Coalition Against Integration, coverage of the public debate on Sept. 1, and on-site reporting during the voting period on Sept. 19-20.

In the previous issue, the CBT reported a discussion of the merger between the two universities raising with Glocal University 30 projects. Just before the publication¡¯s release, we got some advice from Director Gu Bon-sang. Director Gu expressed a desire to show the ¡°direction¡± in the article rather than maintaining ¡°neutrality¡± and hoped that readers would form their thoughts through the article representing a ¡°specific¡± direction.

On Aug. 28, at a party banquet, President Yoon Suk-yeol criticized the opposition party and the media, saying, ¡°The opposition supporters are controlling the media, so they constantly curse the government 24 hours a day.¡± This narrow-minded media view, where the president of a country simply views criticism of the government as a curse, seems to echo the words of a tyrannical king. It is clear why President Yoon does not take into account his constitutional obligation to guarantee freedom of the press and has no awareness of the far-reaching consequences of his words and actions that undermine the independence of the press.

The film tells the narrative of Andy Dufresne¡¯s two-decade-long incarceration within the fictional penitentiary known as Shawshank and his friendship with Red. The film was nominated in seven categories at the Academy Awards.

The Truman Show is literally a TV show that broadcasts the life of a man named Truman Burbank. The show was the most popular program on offer and portrayed his whole life from birth, including his baby steps, elementary school, college, and marriage. This show broadcasted live 24 hours a day, filming his every move. But Truman himself had no idea that his life was broadcasted. Everyone in The Truman Show, except Truman, was an actor.

On May 1, international workers¡¯ day, Yang Hee-dong, a construction worker, self-immolated, leaving the will above. Yang, who told his comrades to ensure a world where workers are the owners, passed away the next day. His comrade said, ¡°He was a comrade who went around negotiating here and there to find a job for a union member without even getting his share.¡± What drove Yang to his death?

Following his tracks she finds an old door located in the middle of a pond in the ruins of a mountain. After she opens the old door that looked mysteriously, a black object ¡°mimiz,¡± immediately started creating pandemonium. The unfortune result is that a crisis of disaster approaches the village. The Hegel¡¯s dialectics has the schema of thesis-antithesis-synthesis. An opinion (synthesis) is formed by putting together an argument(thesis) and arguments(antithesis) against it. The synthesis formed in this way becomes a new argument, which develop through a structure that creates new opposing arguments(antithesis) and synthesized opinions.

¡°I see¡± and ¡°You must have been very upset¡± are commonly used when we sympathize with someone. However, while saying these things, I wondered whether I was sympathizing with the person or the person was sympathizing with me. And regardless of whether the other person comforted me, or I comforted the other person, I felt empty after the conversation. This is often because they were not truly empathetic.

When I woke up in the morning, it was earlier than I thought. I was even more tired because I went to bed late the previous night to do my assignment. I could have slept more, and I felt more tired because I woke up earlier than expected. I went to the bathroom to brush my teeth, but there were no toothbrushes left. I was wondering where it went, and I remember that I threw away my toothbrush to change it after brushing my teeth last night. I went to the local store to buy a toothbrush.

¡°Listening attentively¡± means to listen carefully, giving your full attention to the speaker. It refers to not only listening but also listening to and understanding the motivations and emotions that the other person is trying to convey, as well as giving feedback to the other person based on what they are saying. It is often easy to listen to other people¡¯s stories when talking with others, but it is not easy to understand others¡¯ thoughts and sympathize with others¡¯ feelings.

The very popular drama, ¡°Extraordinary Attorney Woo¡± which ended recently, deals with the story of Woo Young-woo. She happens to be a genius lawyer with an autism spectrum disorder, who entered a law firm and solves cases with other colleagues. People have different preferences, and they can express their individuality depending on what they prefer. The reason why individuality is important is that people can express both their appearance that they want to show to others and their potential tendency and ¡®introspection,¡¯ which is their true self. Individuality can not be found, but it appears according to attraction and preference for unknown reasons.

A popular TV drama named Twenty-Five Twenty-One ended on April 3rd. The drama enjoyed a lot of attention before airing because the name of the drama was the same as the title of a hit song, which was sung by the famous band Jaurim. Therefore, people were curious about the connection between the drama and the song. I also like the song, so I was really interested in the drama and I watched it faithfully.

ESG stands for Environment, Social, and Governance, and it refers to whether the operation and process of an enterprise is being transparently disclosed. Recently it has become common for companies to issue an ESG, which refers to the attitude of management towards society and the environment. It measures an intangible social element rather than a tangible financial one, but most importantly, it promotes ¡®sustainable development.¡¯ Many enterprises have recently emphasized the importance of an ESG management mindset.

Modern people try to work better, harder, and faster by using time as efficiently as possible. Moreover, they try to achieve the best results when doing so. I¡¯m sure you will agree that ¡®Concentration¡¯ is absolutely necessary for attaining optimal results. People used to use the ¡®noise canceling¡¯ function of AirPods Pro, which is a set of wireless earphones, as well as an app which blocks your phone for a predetermined period.
