On May 20th, 2015, a festival was held in Gaesin Cultural Center to celebrate the 60th birthday of the CBNU press. In the festival, there was an exhibition of our school newspapers, which have been published since 1955.
CBT(The Chungbuk Times) was founded 20 years after the establishment of CBNU¡¯s Korean newspaper. The first published English newspaper was not stored, so the oldest one among the remaining newspapers was a newspaper which was published in 1995. Even though the 1995 newspaper was not the initial newspaper, it was enough to give me an impression about our newspaper.
The faded newspapers contained a long history inside. Because it¡¯s our university newspaper, it¡¯s not only Korean history, but CBNU¡¯s history is also contained in the newspapers. Also, the history of CBT was inside the newspapers. By looking at the old newspapers, I could find out there were some events that were hosted by CBT. An English Contest was held for a few years, and there was an event named ¡®The Night of English¡¯, in which students could make English speeches, in 2008. As an editor-in-chief of The Chungbuk Times, I could see the veteran reporters¡¯ efforts to publish these newspapers, and it made me think I need to work harder.
As I prepared for CBNU¡¯s 60th anniversary festival, I found out what veteran reporters considered important and how they wrote and composed the articles. I hope the past newspapers can lead me to guide our newspaper in a better way. Furthermore, I wish that the past records and history will have positive effects on the present and guide the CBT to a better path. I hope other people won¡¯t treat history just as history and will actively adopt it in the present. After that, past mistakes will not repeat and good times will continue.
