[View points about Adoption] Micro Trend Effect about Adoption
Á¦ 109 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2009.06.01

In our society, people became familiar with the word ¡°adoption¡± because we see many dramas and movies about adoption like ¡°Between of One Year Sorry, I love you,¡± ¡°Island¡± and ¡°My Father.¡± However, many people still feel some distance when they  listen to the word ¡°adoption.¡±
Adoption means that some people who don¡¯t have any blood relationship take a relationship as parents and children. For Koreans, adoption is not easy to decide because of our strict Confucian culture which holds family lines in great account. However, opinions about adoption are becoming affirmative these days.
On changing our fundamental recognition toward adoption, public adoption by entertainers has more effect than the support of the government. It shows one part of a ¡°Micro Trend Effect,¡± which means that people can change the world even if only one percent of six billion people act. As many celebrities recommend  adoption and adopt children, they show a model of ¡°star obligation.¡±
Many star performers, like the married couple Cha In-pyo and Shin Ae-ra and the actress Song Ok-suk, reveal their adoptions, which many people keep secret. Song Ok-suk showed how to be a family with a ten-year-old daughter through broadcasting, and it became a topic of conversation. The actress said, ¡°I want to find my daughter¡¯s real mother for her ego-identity.¡± After that broadcast, most viewers gave a favorable comment like, ¡°Her frank speaking about adoption was impressive.¡± Because of this case, public adoption by entertainers changed the negative opinion to the affirmative.
However, we have to worry about the view of adoption because there is a recognition that adoption is a good deed in the viewers¡¯ opinions. In response Cha In-pyo, an entertainer who adopted two daughters and one son said, ¡°Adoption has to be congratulated, not praised.¡±
Adoption gives people new family members, which is similar to childbirth. Therefore, the people¡¯s thought, ¡°Public adoption is a kind of good deed,¡± is wrong. Adoption has to be a natural thing, not a good deed. It is good that the recognition of adoption is changing to the affirmative, but we have to be careful that the affirmative recognition doesn¡¯t go in a strange direction.
