Library Delivers Books to the Disabled Students
Á¦ 123 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.04.04
A disabled student checked a book which was delivered in the Support
                     Center for Handicapped Students.

The Support Center for Handicapped Students and the library started the Delivery Service of Borrowed Books for the Disabled Students since March 2nd. This service is being implemented for the convenience of disabled students.

The disabled students should apply by e-mail(book@chungbuk.ac.kr) to take advantage of this service. The library checks the mail and sends books to the Support Center for Handicapped Students.

The Support Center for Handicapped Students explains the books are delivered to the disabled students when students visit the Support Center or post on the club or the school bulletin board. Only one student has used this service so far because the students commonly borrow books with the assistance of the Helper Program, which helps  disabled students with a variety of services. Another reason is that the disabled students must closely examine the contents in the book themselves before they select the books for class assignments. The official of the Support Center for Handicapped Students expected that the number of students will increase in the period of midterm exams.

Kim Su-jin(the Department of Child Welfare, 09'), who is a representative of the disabled students, said, "When I borrowed books before, I rode the elevator and wandered in the library for a long time while leading an uncomfortable body. I hope that this service will be revitalized and that many policies to assist the disabled students will be made not only in the library but also other places within the school."

Oh Yoon-sim, who is a full time social worker in the Support Center for Handicapped Students, gave her opinion about bringing books into classrooms or dormitories, "First, the books are not managed. Another reason is that many students apply for books which are not related to their lectures. Therefore, I think it is inefficient to deliver books to the classroom, and it is unnecessary because the assistants help disabled students by transferring books to the dormitory."

The Delivery Service of Borrowed Books for the Disabled Students has been enforced at the Daegu Metropolitan Central Library, Ehwa Womans Univ. and Hanyang Univ. among others. The service of CBNU is different in that it communicates with the disabled students by linking the support center and the library. In addition, the school promised to provide diverse services for the disabled students in various ways.
