Chungbuk National University operates a total of four dormitories, including the main dormitory (GaeSeongJae and GyeYoungWon), YangJinJae, YangSeongJae, and YangHyeonJae, an international student dormitory, on Gaesin Campus. Currently, expansion and new construction projects are undergoing. This is in accordance with the agreement on the implementation of the CBNU dormitory residential environment improvement lease-type private investment project (BTL) with the The-Yeollin-Gaesin-Life Inc. on March 31, 2023, to improve the residential welfare of students. Looking at the expansion and new construction of the dormitory so far, YangHyeonJae completed construction at the end of Feb. and students started moving in on March 1. YangHyeonJae, which has been used as an international student dormitory so far, increased its capacity from 168 to 474 through the expansion. From this semester, it placed international students first and received domestic students¡¯ occupancy in the remaining spare rooms. The occupancy of domestic students in YangHyeonJae will continue beyond this semester. YangHyeonJae¡¯s selection of residents is the same as the existing dormitory occupancy process. The selection of residents in the dormitory is carried out through an integrated application method. If a student applies to a dormitory where they want to move in, they will be assigned to the desired dormitory according to their priority. Applicants who are not assigned due to exceeding the quota will be arbitrarily assigned to an available dormitory with vacancies. Therefore, even if a student applies for moving into YangHyeonJae, they will not be disadvantaged when assigned to the dormitory. As of Feb. 25, YangHyeonJae᾿s prospective residents are 194 international students and 280 domestic students.
GaeSeongJae in the main dormitory was not moved in this semester because the internal remodeling work is currently underway. GaeSeongJae is replacing the curtains that were used before with screen rolls and replacing mattresses and chairs with new ones. In addition, the existing public toilets have been removed, and toilets are being installed in each room. The remodeling of GaeSeongJae will be completed by Feb. 2026, followed by the remodeling of GyeYoungWon. The number of people at GaeSeongJae will be reduced from 566 to 272 due to the installation of toilets in each room, which can be replaced by the capacity of YangHyeonJae and the new Osong Campus dormitory. ¡°The total number of students recruited for 2023, before construction began, was 4,121. However, the number of students recruited for 2027, after all construction has been completed, has only slightly increased to 4,123.¡± said Yeon Je-bun, an officer at the CBNU dormitory.
Meanwhile, the dormitory under construction at Osong Campus, where the College of Pharmacy is located, will accommodate a total of 406 students. It will feature the first underground floor and the fifth floor above ground, with the goal of completion in Feb. 2027. College of Pharmacy students have been commuting by shuttle bus using the student living center in Gaesin Campus because there is no dormitory at Osong Campus. This inconvenience is expected to disappear when the Osong Campus dormitory is completed.
