Movies have a lot of fascination. Each person sees a movie with various intents. However, they smile and cry together while seeing a movie. Also, we can gain experience indirectly through seeing movies. Therefore, CBT will choose one movie each month. Moreover, we will show cultures and histories depicted in the movie. In this issue, we chose “Amadeus.” Let’s inquire about the culture of classicism through ‘Amadeus.’ -Ed.
 
 Most classical artists served a master in the Classical period. Classical artists couldn’t live without a supporter because they stood in relation to master and servant. If you see Amadeus, you can see Mozart, who suffered from economic problems due to his independence.
 Mozart’s father also was a musician and a servant of the cathedral. Mozart and his father were able to go to provincial performances after their plan was okayed by the archbishop, because he worked in a cathedral as a servant. However, Mozart was able to live a freer life compared with his father. The reason was that the age when Mozart live was the age of revolution when social irregularities were abundant. Moreover, the feudal age was changing to an absolute monarchy owing to the appearance of the bourgeoisie. Also, musicians were able to become professional men as the bourgeoisie grew. Therefore, Mozart also was able to be free.
 There were complications made by the collision between the old feudal system and the new system in Mozart’s works. He left many brilliant achievements in the field of opera. Among them, “Magic Flute” reflected the Freemason’s ideals. Freemasons, a group for reorganization, resisted the degradation of society. Mozart acted as a Freemason, and “Magic Flute” is regarded as a masterpiece that artistically expressed the Enlightenment’s problems.
 Amadeus, the middle name of Mozart, means ‘Beloved of God.’ It is interesting to view the culture of the Classical period depicted in the movie. However, it is also fun to compare the life of a genius, Mozart, with the ordinary person Salieri, who is like us.
