[Welcome to the World's Festivals]Get out of the Groove and Enjoy the Battle
Á¦ 108 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2009.05.05

Many people may think that the word ¡°fight¡± is not suitable for a festival. However, if you see people enjoying festivals which CBT introduced, you will be crazy about them. Although someone throws crushed oranges or if you are dashed with water by children, you will enjoy it instead of getting angry. Let¡¯s go to Italy¡¯s Battle of the Oranges and Thailand¡¯s Songkran Festival.
Battle of the Oranges
In the north of Italy, there is a place called Ivrea. It is near Switzerland, and it takes one hour by train from Torino. A battle takes place here every February. The weapons are not guns or swords, but oranges. The Battle of the Oranges has been noticed both home and abroad as the most splendid event which describes the Ivrea festival as the symbol ¡°battle for liberty.¡± The Battle of the Oranges was derived from a revolt against a violent lord in the Middle Ages. During the festival, people who act as  violent lord and soldiers take a coach loaded up with oranges, and the citizenry play the role of confrontational citizens. Therefore, they throw oranges at the impersonators. This battle continues for three days. While the festival is held, you can see fireworks informing of a prelude of the festival, an ethnic costume parade and traditional food tasting.
Songkran Festival
Songkran Festival is held throughout Thailand in April annually. The word, ¡°Sonkran,¡± means ¡°move¡± and ¡°a new year,¡± so it also means ¡°the sun is moving to another way.¡± Nowadays, it has the meaning ¡°congratulations of starting a new year.¡± Songkran Festival is similar with New Year¡¯s Day in Korea. Officially, three days of holiday are offered, and the people go back to their hometown. Also, they meet parents and give well-wishing remarks. During this festival, you get wet if you go out to the street because of thrown water. It is derived from a tradition of removing bad things from one year and wishing good luck. Moreover, citizens make foods and enjoy time with neighbors. They also release birds and fish. Therefore, tourists can see various parades on the street.
If you travel to get rid of stress, CBT recommends you to go where the ¡°fight¡± is. If you participate in the above festivals once, you will want to go to the festivals once more. It is a chance to become a child again who enjoys festivals and not be concerned about work. Also, you can yell and run as much as you want. How about participating in the festivals? In the festivals, you will become a hero.
