Olympus, an international camera company, has investigated the sales of the Mirrorless Interchangeable Lens Camera(MILC) in the past year and found out that the sales rapidly increased. According to their findings, the MILCs increased by more than 160% of last year's sales in the UK, and it captured 8.3% of the German market. It also had 40% of the total digital camera sales for one year in Japan. Now, people all around the world are paying attention to the MILC.
The Digital Single-lens Reflex Camera(DSLR) has a pentaprism, or a mirror, which helps to focus on a subject located between the lens and the sensor. The distinction between the MILC and the DSLR is the existence of the pentaprism. The MILC reduced its size or removed it.
The MILC is much smaller and lighter than the DSLR. The MILCs make it possible for people to take high-resolution pictures as good as DSLRs, and they can change lenses. Additionally, Olympus and Fujifilm released new MILCs, and these remind people of film cameras. People love the appearance which is similar to the old-fashioned film cameras from the 1970s and 1980s. Those are even up-to-date digital cameras with various digital factors. The MILCs have both digital factors and old designs. The younger generations enjoy the fresh style, and the older generations remember their youths while using the MILCs.
Not only Olympus and Fujifilm, Samsung and Sony have competitively started to produce MILCs. Many experts expect that the MILCs, which have strong points of both DSLRs and compact cameras, will overwhelm the DSLR market soon.
