Commentary about the Essay
Á¦ 161 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2015.11.30

A total of 6 papers were received, and we carefully reviewed every paper in terms of its grammatical competence, the frame/structure of the work, and the creative/critical thinking skills it presented. The first factor, grammatical competence, should be considered important, mainly because it not only serves as a basis for good writing, but it also helps readers to understand the main theme of the paper. The second factor, the frame/structure of the paper, is another important item that all writers should be aware of, because it is the one that helps readers to understand the clear picture of his/her writing. The next one, creative/critical thinking skills, is another significant factor that needs to be considered in our evaluation process, since it is an element that reveals the original perspectives that distinguish the writer from others.
Some papers met most of our standards, while others were revealing several weak points that could have been revised. After carefully reviewing every essay, we chose ¡°What should university students do in this globalized generation?¡± as the best paper, concluding that it seemed to meet most of the standards that we considered in our evaluation process. First of all, the essay is well-written in the perspective of grammatical competence, and the writer is presenting a clear picture of his/her essay using such words as ¡°First,¡± ¡°Second,¡± and ¡°Most importantly.¡± Not only that, the essay reveals the creative/critical thinking skills of the writer effectively, so that it impresses the readers with its new perspectives on multiculturalism. The topic of the essay is thought-provoking, and the writer is very good at presenting specific examples to support his/her arguments; the details that the writer is providing to support his/her perspectives sound very convincing, and the messages of the paper are eloquently described.
The second best paper is ¡°My Terrible Stress,¡± which satisfied some of our standards in regards to the three major factors mentioned above. The paper is also presenting the main theme of the writer effectively, although it could have included more creative/critical perspectives on his/her topic. The writer might want to create a new title that would reflect not only the causes of stress he/she went through but also the remedies/strategies that he/she has been practicing to deal with the stressful conditions. If carefully revised, the paper will deliver the  intentions/messages of the writer more effectively. Other papers presented some level of competence in English, although they seemed to require more revision. Overall, we think we enjoyed reading all the essays, hoping to read more exciting works next time.
