There is a saying “If you want to keep your brain clever, protect your five senses.” The five senses are sight, hearing, smell, touch, and taste. Human brains are developed through these five senses, which come from the outside of the body. Among the five senses, the sense of smell is said to be the most primitive sense. Also, the first sense that a baby develops is the sense of smell, and a good scent makes people stable, does the body relieve tension, and does the brain active more. It is said that people use 25% of their sense of touch, 35% of their vision, and 50% of their sense of smell to remember others. As such, the scent is an important factor in determining a person’s first impression, and it is a unique personality that only one has, and many workshops using this scent have emerged. CBT reporters also visited a perfume·diffuser·candle craft shop named Scent U to find their scents.

[Perfume]

  When people make their own perfume, they think choosing their own scent is the most important thing. Before deciding on these scents, the instructor briefly explained the perfume. First, she briefly explained the name and duration according to the concentration of perfumes, and it is said that perfumes are also given various names, perfume, eau de perfume, eau de toilette, in order of high concentration and long duration. Also, the higher the concentration of the undiluted solution, the longer the duration of the perfume. Therefore, which the CBT reporters made this time, is the perfume with the longest duration.
  After going through a simple introduction process for these perfumes, 51 scents are tested for 20 minutes, and one to three scents are determined. One CBT reporter, who usually likes the scent of baby powder and clean fiber, made perfume by mixing Chanel No.5, Clean cotton, and Tomford Black Ochid in the ratio of 5:2:3. Another CBT reporter usually likes fragrant scents such as lavender, and made perfume by mixing Chanel No.5 and Bulgari Omniama Messist in the ratio of 1:1.
  After determining the ratio of scent to scent, the first thing to do is to disinfect it by putting disinfectant in an empty bottle. After that, it is had to put in a perfume base, which usually has 90% of the perfume base, but the CBT reporters made perfume with 80% of this base, because it can maintain the scent for a long time. Therefore, 80mL of this base was added to an empty bottle and 20mL of the undiluted perfume solution was mixed. At that time, the color of the perfume is light yellow, and if there is a color of the perfume people want, they can make the color of the perfume with a small amount of pigment. After all the processes are completed, they can close the lid of the bottle and ferment it for two weeks before using it.
  In particular, the most difficult part of the process of making perfume was the stage of making the wanted color. At first, it was thought that all perfume undiluted solutions were transparent, but only the some were transparent and the most of them were yellow. These yellow colors were also different for each undiluted solution, so at first, the CBT reporter wanted blue perfume, so she used blue pigment, but after adding blue pigment to the perfume, she was embarrassed because it was green. In addition, if a lot of these pigments were put in perfume, stains can be made on clothes, so it is had to use a small amount to make the wanted color, and there is no fixed amount of pigment, which is the most careful part of the perfume making process.



[Candle]

  The CBT reporters chose the scent by tasting it, just as they made perfume and diffusor to make a candle. The CBT reporters who enjoy drinking coffee and taking a rest chose coffee scent. Next, they melted pilla wax, an ingredient of candles, over a fire and put solid pigments when it was completely melted. When the temperature of colored pilla wax became 70℃, they added the coffee scent. Then, they poured melted pilla wax into a silicon mold. Last, they stuck the toothpick where they want to plant the wick and waited until it hardens. It was completed after 2 hours.



[Diffuser]

  The process of making perfume and the process of making diffuser were very similar, so it was easy for the CBT reporter who made perfume in advance. The CBT reporter, who usually prefers a clean scent, produced a diffuser by mixing Clean Cotton and Mid-Summer Night with a ratio of 6:4. In addition, Scent U was able to decorate various diffusers, and the CBT reporters made diffusers that embody the sea.
  First, she sterilized the empty bottle and decorated the diffuser container according to suiting her taste. The CBT reporter prepared an empty bottle decorated with artificial sand at the bottom and clams on top to create a diffuser that embodies the sea. After that, put the diffuser base and the undiluted solution of perfume that they mixed in the beaker, add the pigment, and stir it with a glass bar so that everything mixing. Also, it is completed by carefully closing the liquid in the beaker in an empty bottle and plugging the container with a stopper.

[Review of the Scent]

  There was a total of 51 scents here in Scent U, where people could make perfume by mixing one to up to three scents. First, the CBT reporters test to smell 51 scents for 20 minutes and then leave a review of 9 unique scents.
 

  When the CBT reporters asked, “Is there a common image of people along with the selected scent?,” Jeong Ye-jin, who runs Scent U, answered “It is difficult to judge that a person will use this kind of scent only based on their image. There was an episode that I thought a man will use this kind of scent only seeing his appearance, but he chose a different kind of scent. I think people can’t be judged only along with selected scent because it needs personality to choose the scent.” Like this, the scent becomes a factor in expressing not only appearance but also personality. The CBT reporters hope the readers make their scent through perfume, diffuser, and candle craft experiences and get a chance to express their individuality.
