[Advice from Lee Joo-hong, Who Left a Company and Became a Plane Captain] A Challenge Makes the Future

Do you have a dream? Many people say, ¡°A dream is easy to have but difficult to achieve.¡± Lee Joo-hong (Department of Russian Language and Literature, Class of ¡®95) left the International Contractors Association of Korea, and he now works for Korean Air as First Officer which was his dream. CBT listened to his story that he realized his dream by challenging resolutely. -Ed.

CBT: Why did you want to be a plane captain?
Lee Joo-hong: I think many people have dreamed of becoming ¡®a plane captain¡¯ once. The chances to think about it were given to me more than other people. I once took a ship to travel with my maternal uncle after I came back from the army service, and I reminisced about that voyage. A ship and an airplane are different, but I liked their points of sameness, traveling around the world. After that, I had an ideal dream that ¡®I want to pilot an airplane in the future.¡¯
CBT: Did graduating from a local university affect your career?
Lee: If you enter the society, graduating from a local university does not affect your career seriously. Absolutely, graduating from a local university can affect your community sometimes. However, the more important thing is doing your best in university life. Obtaining credits in school can indicate sincerity in society. If you managed your university life well and endeavored at social activities like dong-a-ri activities, graduating from a local university does not affect your career. Therefore, you don¡¯t have to think that ¡®CBNU is not a good university because it is a local university.¡¯
CBT: What do you think of the fact that many students study for obtaining a job?
Lee: I think that studying for obtaining a job is an inevitable phenomenon unless society doesn¡¯t change. If students merely have goals to obtaining a job, they have to do their best for the goal. When they do their best, they also have to study English hard. After I entered society, the words, ¡®English is essential¡¯ were realized. Everybody can speak some English, but only the best students can speak English fluently. I hope that there will be many students who can speak English fluently.
CBT: Please, give some helpful comments for the students.
Lee: There are students saying, ¡°I have a dream, but I don¡¯t know how I should prepare for my dream.¡± If you have a dream, there are various ways to achieve your dream. It is the most important thing that you know what you have to do to achieve your dream. Furthermore, if you know the way, you have to try to realize your dreams and resolutely select the correct path when the chance comes. It is good to ponder seriously, but if you just worry about it, it is hard to approach your dream.
