[Interview] "Being Googley" Means a Passionate Person like Him
Á¦ 105 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2008.12.03

¡°Passion makes you sexy,¡± is written on the cover of the book, ¡°The Young Googler¡¯s Letter to the Dead Passion.¡± Have you ever read this book? CBT met Kim Tae-won who is the author of this book and works as the Creative Maximizer of Google, which is a firm for a search engine on the internet. He spent his university days differently from other students in various internships and winning prizes in contests, in which he won many trips abroad. He filled up a space with his warm passion during the interview. Are you ready to palpitate with him in passion? -Ed.

He looked for the opportunities during his university days.
He said that his most shameful and regretful period in his life was his time as a freshman. He could escape from that life thanks to Daehak Naeil. He started a report on Daehak Naeil when he was a sophomore, and it led him to a new world. Generally, students work as a reporter for six months, but he was so excited and worked as a reporter for two years. He realized through activity as a reporter that he was a frog trapped in a well, and this activity was a foothold for him to advance toward a wider world.
He participated many times in activities of not only reporting but also contests and internships as an undergraduate. Even so, he wasn¡¯t neglectful of grades. He began his speech, ¡°The grade is not a function of time but a function of passion.¡± When he was a junior and senior in niversity, his grades were the highest although they were the busiest years in his undergraduate life. ¡°A concept where you can get a chance again in advance gives you a generous attitude. I knew the fact that a missed class couldn¡¯t come back to me, so I endeavored to concentrate in class.¡±

Dreams & a motto light up his life.
He kept busy days with tight schedules during university days. CBT asked if he were tired due to the hectic schedule, and he answered, ¡°My body was tired, but I seldom thought that it was too hard. I felt that the next day would spread out amusing events and that each precious day passed too quickly. Therefore, this is my motto, ¡®Be one who expects the coming tomorrow and misses the passing today.¡¯¡±
He dreams of producing contents like writing books or columns or hosting a talk show. Lately, he has been realizing his true dream of writing a book whose subject is thinking outside the box. This dream offers him the motivation to find the contents for writing his book and challenges him with new experiences anytime. His dreams and his motto must be fireflies which glow in the dark and indicate his position.

The power of positive thought is the source of his energy.
Positive thinking allows him to be able to be today¡¯s Kim Tae-won. Some people who know that he lived in a small rented house in Chengdam-dong in his youth wonder if people compared him with his rich friends. He views life as unfair. ¡°The world isn¡¯t fair. Moreover, many people complain about the unfair reality. However, I think the world is unfair so that I can overcome adversities. Thanks to this thought, I was able to surmount trials with my efforts.¡±
He suffered some difficulties such as financial problems and conflicts within his family. However, he has changed sadness to energy. ¡°Two months ago, my father passed away. I was so sorrowful, but I couldn¡¯t be absorbed in the sorrow. Although my father passed away, I had an opportunity to look back over all my life.¡±

To CBNU  students¡¦
In these days, lots of students spend time without an obvious aim during university days. Kim Tae-won advised these students. ¡°Students seem to pursue convenience. When I went to university, I laid down to bed with fatigue when working on a report. I wrote a report aboutan auctioneers¡¯ life, so I visited Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market for the report and spent two weeks with auctioneers. It was fatiguing for me to go to school in the daytime and to go to Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market to see their life at night. If you want to do something you love, I hope that you do it enthusiastically.¡±
He passed along a request. ¡°It¡¯s important to put your whole soul into work you love as well as to find your direction. As it¡¯s hard to find employment now, undergraduate competition is fierce. My friends were first enough in the race of making specifications that they finally entered good firms. They quit their jobs two years later because it was not what they wanted, so you think deeply of your direction rather than the velocity without an obvious goal.¡±
