I heard that you have liked comics since you were young. Why do you like comics?

When I was young, I liked various things such as comics, movies and I also liked animations. I realized that my favorite genre was animations when I was a third-year student of high school. The reason was that I could be the creator and make anything in animations. However, in many movies, their stories are similar with our reality. On the other hand, animations can build completely new worlds from the bottom up. I liked ¡®One Piece¡¯ when I was young because it showed incredible imagination while expressing the story.

I heard that you feel sorry that the domestic animation markets only target infants. Then what do you want the domestic animation market to be like specifically?

¡®Zootopia¡¯ expresses the point very well that adults can also feel empathy and have their own philosophies. Likewise, animations can be enjoyed by adults. However, I think we should make the animation fun first. Having said that, I wish the existing stereotypes regarding animations would disappear. I also hope that the general atmosphere which regards animations as things only for children would disappear. To create a new atmosphere, finally, I think we should make animations great, and well-created animations can change the stereotype.

What is the hardest aspect of producing animations?

The hardest thing is making stories. When the story is made by talking, writing, directing and adding sound, the fun points change. These decisions are difficult. Also, because all people have different tastes, we sometimes have clashing viewpoints. For example, when we express a falling down scene, a ridiculous exaggeration can be fun. However, at the same time, it would be more fun if we only show the situation right before the fall, and in the next scene, the character looks fine but with a bump on his forehead. In many cases, there aren¡¯t right or wrong answers. This is the most difficult part. And it is also not easy to divide parts between the things we already know and the things the audience doesn¡¯t know.

What is the philosophy of Spookiz?

We have talked about that a lot. However, it is hard to summarize in 2 minutes. Expressing a philosophy is not easy. We have discussed what world views should be contained in Spookiz for other formats like movies or TV, but it is undecided and not certain, so I can¡¯t say more about it. However, I have a personal one not about Spookiz. I like Captain America the most among Marvel heroes because he is very righteous and good-hearted. Many movies¡¯ stories flow through the process, Should the main character be righteous? Although they bash villains as they are afflicted, if the result is good, it is fine. However, I think the most important part of a hero movie should be justice. And I think sacrifice and an upright personality are also significant, and I want to tell people about these things. In Spookiz, I always make mischievous characters be suffer. I think we have to do this.

What do you want to tell CBNU students?

I think students should be serious and take ample time to consider their future and their job when they are in university. If someone wants only a high salary, surely a high salary can be a good goal, but payment may be not the most important thing. If you are confused about what to be, the method of finding your proficient fields would be good. Because when others praise you or you feel like you did well, you can feel worthwhile. The following story was told by my professor and I was impressed with it. Many students who choose an art major have egos that they went to their favorite field. At that time, the professor asked us, ¡°Raise your hands if you would become a doctor if someone could make you a doctor right now.¡± But nobody raised their hands. ¡°Nobody? Then, you are a doctor and your annual income is a hundred million won. How about this?¡± Then, some people raised their hands for a moment, but most students didn¡¯t raise their hands even when the annual income was increased up to a billion won. Then the professor added, ¡°You are a doctor. I don¡¯t know your payment, but all your patients survive. Incurable illnesses are cured, and the blind can see. Then who wants to be a doctor?¡± At that moment, people raised their hands slowly. I raised my hand, too. This is the point. I think that people¡¯s proficient fields and desired fields are similar, and I think discovering this when they are university students is important.
