Before I became a reporter of the Chungbuk Times, I had a negative opinion about reporters who wrote articles in online magazines because I have often seen that they copy pictures and writings which were posted on the celebrities' mini-homepages and Twitter. However, after I became a reporter of the Chungbuk Times, my negative opinion about reporters has changed.
I thought writing articles was not difficult when I saw some poor internet articles. I thought that writing an article only needed choosing a topic and then writing naturally come with it. However, I now know that reporters should prepare the article's theme, direction, length, locating relevant people as well as interview schedules. Providing information to readers and showing social issues which I analyzed are much more diffi cult than I thought.
These days, many people think that newspapers and reporters are not important anymore because people can find various information, news and issues through social network services like Twitter and Facebook even though people don't read newspapers. I agreed with this opinion before I became a reporter. A short time ago, I attended a seminar organized by Bae Un-cheol, who is the chief of the Social Media Center for Strategy. It was titled 'Understanding and Using the Social Media'. After I listened to the lecture, I began to believe that reporters and newspapers are certainly necessary for people. In the lecture, Bae Un-cheol said, "Newspapers provide not only issues but also accurate analysis of the issues." Reporters provide more correct information than information in which we don't know the source.
Reporters feel worth by providing information to readers. I am determined to provide accurate information to readers to help them become more knowledgable. Of course, this is also difficult. Completing articles is not easy. Reporters should become experts in a variety of areas to write articles. I hope that readers who read newspapers understand the endeavors of reporters.
