The drama starts with two old thieves who are breaking into the Sir¡¯s museum. However, as they don¡¯t know the value of the exhibitions, they don¡¯t take anything, so they wait for the right moment in front of the mu jea, which is a safe-shaped work of art. While they are waiting, they chat about their22 memories: a love story and the reason they were imprisoned. They lose track of time, and the burglar alarm suddenly rings. They are arrested, and they are investigated by an inspector. The drama spotlights the corruptions of public power by describing the officer¡¯s violent interrogation.
As society has been changing for 25 years, the drama has been changing as well. Today, it is no longer an old-fashioned criticism, and the audience has sympathy with it, like the problems of irregular jobs and youth unemployment. Using the thieves¡¯ words, the drama satirizes the dark reality of society, by satirizing the gloomy issues, from ideology of anticommunism to the construction of a great canal through the Korean peninsula, the drama
gives us a big laugh. The range of the criticisms is wide. This performance also points out Shin Jung-a¡¯s forgery of her degree, minister Yu In-chon¡¯s abuse, and even the successive problems of previous president¡¯s families who are in jail.In performing the drama, the actors try to communicate with the audience directly to give us enjoyment. If you want to fully appreciate the drama, you have to listen to the actors¡¯ words carefully. Beyond a simple comedy, an almost every line from the thieves has a suggestive meaning.
