Shall We Garden?
Á¦ 155 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2015.04.06

There are many kinds of marriage proposals. Mostly, flowers are steadily popular for the proposals because they make people happy. We give flowers in the situation not only when we propose but also when we celebrate, like when someone is graduating or winning an award. Also, we can see some flowers on the streets and we could be delighted when we walk on such a street. Plus, it is a good news that someone is helping us to be happy! -Ed.

What is guerrilla gardening?
Guerrilla gardening is the activity of gardening on land that the gardeners do not have the legal rights to utilize, such as an abandoned site, an area that is not being cared for, or private property, so it is occured on any land that is owned by an individual or the government and is usually illegal. Also, its purpose is to press the proper management of the land. They communicate to that land¡¯s owner by gardening the useless or dirty place.

Guerrilla gardening in foreign countries
The most famous guerrilla gardener is Richard Reynolds, who is British. One night, he looked at the streets of London and suddenly got tired of dry landscapes with no flowers or grass. He thought about how to garden the useless place and did that in reality. After that day, he repeated it. He found useless places, cleaned up the trash and garden. As time passed, he became a famous guerrilla gardener and guerrilla gardening has spread all over the world.

Guerrilla gardening of our country
Guerrilla gardening is occurring in our country; it is usually done personally by volunteering groups or internet communities. A guerrilla gardening club in Konkuk University was formed in 2012, and they made passerbys¡¯eyes happy by gardening around the campus. The company of Daeji Development has donated fertilizers, and Common Ground by Kolon Fashion has supported financing.
The president of the guerrilla gardening club in Konkuk University, Oh Su-jin(¡¯13, Dept. of Environmental Health Science, Konkuk University) said, ¡°The more the press covers our work and the more outside support we get, the busier I am. However, I am happy that lots of people know about us. When I decorate the land that had no attention from people, it turns into a beautiful place, and I feel really great when the people enjoy it. The fact that the surrounding environment turns beautiful is a guerrilla gardener¡¯s fascination. After my graduation, I want to do guerrilla gardening steadily if I have a time and if my conditions allow.¡±

Warning!
Because of this purpose, guerrilla gardening is a common thing and doesn¡¯t need constant care. Also, usually it uses cheap and big flowers that can catch people¡¯s eyes easily. However, don¡¯t just use any flowers. If it is a foreign species, it can mess up our ecosystem, so, after proper investigation, you must garden proper things that won¡¯t affect our ecosystem. It is good when flowers surround us. Also, as stated, guerrilla gardening is considered illegal. The reason that guerrilla gardening mostly happens at night is because it supposed to be a secret. In point of law, it applies to the infringement of property rights. This is a definite thing to consider while guerrilla gardening.

Concern about guerrila gardening are getting higher. While walking on the street, seeing flowers or grass would make you feel good. For this, the people who plant flowers personally are romantic enough. If you want to be romantic, how about guerrilla gardening?
