Sang-ho Lee (a professor of Dept. of Computer Science)
The centralization of information which was generated from the evolution of Information Society has high efficiency and convenience. I think, on the other hand, if illegal data spill took place due to poor management, the damage will have a big feature. The computer network of Nonghyup was paralyzed in April and Nate¡¯s server hacking happened in July. These incidents have in common that two companies of awareness of security are too superficial. This is the same as driving a car without insurance. In order to make us comfortable from fear of leaking information, things are required : Following 'the privacy policy' taking effect on Sept.30, Raising awareness about security of the leaders who handle personal information, Recognizing investment in security as essential thing, Thinking people most important factor in security. Sites which collect personal information want to gather a lot of information as possible they can. However, innovation of trying to obtain the minimum private information is necessary.
Han-byeol Kim (School of Business, '09) My private information was leaked because Nate and Cyworld were hacked. I fell into confusion and I didn¡¯t know what to do. While I read some articles about the hacking incident, I discovered that victims of the incident received compensation money from Nate and Cyworld. I think, however, paying the compensation can¡¯t solve the fundamental problems. It is important that the companies should set up a proper security system and should try to catch the hackers.
Jin-yeong Lee (Dept. of Management Information Systems, '11) Nate¡¯s server hacking was not a mere data spill incident. This incident has aroused people¢¥s attention to the importance of security. I am one of the victims but cannot predict how much damage occured by this hacking incident. I think an institution which informs people about the harm and the seriousness caused by the leaking of private information should be created in Korea.
