[CampusNews] C+ Is Better than B0?
Á¦ 106 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2009.03.16
The regulation for the retaking of courses was revised in 2009. By revising the regulation, if you receive over a B0, you can no longer qualify to retake the course. Also, if you fail the second time, the failing grade will be recorded on the report card.
CBNU explained why the regulation was revised, ¡®Professors think B0¡¯s or better are good grades, so the students should receive the grade. However, despite acquiring an A+, some students retake the course. The regulation was revised to prevent unnecessary taking of courses.¡¯ Also, CBNU said, ¡®Students who should have retaken the course couldn¡¯t apply because of excessive applying for retaking, so they demanded to revise the regulation. Because 1,500,000,000 won in tuition is lacking every year, the regulation was revised to save human resources and material.¡¯
Although CBNU made its position clear, students complained about the regulation. One of the problems is that CBNU revised the regulation despite the fact that only a few students who had received a B0 or higher retook the class. The number of total course applications was 205,739, and the number of retaking course applications was 14,379. The 754 cases, about 5% of repeat course applications, were applied for by people who got a B0 or higher. However, students raised the question about how much finance will be saved by reducing 0.3% of total applications.  Also, students expect that some of their records will be damaged. Students who received a C+ or less can change to a higher grade, but students who acquired a B0 or higher can¡¯t change to a higher grade. Moreover, the problems were there was little public notice and deficient students¡¯ opinions were collected.
The administer said about the students¡¯ complaints, ¡°I¡¯m sorry that public notice was deficient about the new rule,¡± and he also said about reducing repeat students, ¡°Repeat students who acquired a B0 or higher are rare, but to save finances for school is reasonable.¡± Also, he said about the restriction of B0 or higher applications, ¡°Studying hard to apply for a small number of courses will be better than ineffective studying to apply for a large number of courses though retaking the courses.¡±
