Shh! Here Is the Place for the Intellectuals!
Á¦ 108 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2009.05.05
At present, CBNU Library¡¯s lobby is being used as a place for people to meet each other and as a passageway between the College of Natural Science and the College of Social Science. For these reasons, there is too much noise, and it disturbs the academic atmosphere. The library started a care campaign in March with the intention to settle the library culture by reducing noise. This campaign is part of a project for making a mature library culture which will progress in the future. The project is still being prepared, but the campaign started earlier than planned as the semester began because the library¡¯s lobby became so noisy.
For the campaign¡¯s progress and publicity, the library produced campaign posters. Additionally, the library is endeavoring to form an academic atmosphere by rearranging the space for borrowing and returning books located on the first floor. The library is conducting training in library use to help the freshmen and newly appointed school personnel in the lobby.
To guide students, some employees of the library and student-aid workers are patrolling in the lobby now. However, the library takes the position that lapses in their primary duties are happening as employees participate in guidance. The library is emphasizing that if there are no students¡¯ efforts or participation, there are limits in guiding students with the help of employees. Actually, even if the library struggles institutionally and constructively to make a quiet atmosphere, it is hard to improve without students¡¯ awareness.
The care campaign actually requires users to keep a good etiquette in the library. The campaign¡¯s goals are to lower the voices and the noise of footsteps in the lobby and make people clean up after themselves.
In a university where intellectuals are gathered for higher learning, it is shameful that we have to carry out a campaign because of bad etiquette. It is imperative that students must realize the problems and try to improve them.
