Ways to use genuine-software in CBNU
Á¦ 119È£ È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2010.10.04

As many people download software programs illegally and vary the methods of downloading, Samsung will oppose these situations by greatly increasing software manpower. How about the uses of software programs in CBNU?

All computers are managed as national resources by the CBNU Infomation and Computer Center(I.C.C). Buying computers is under the jurisdiction of each college and each department. Then, if needed, CBNU members can rent genuine software programs owned by the I.C.C..

In the I.C.C., CBNU members can rent genuine software programs by filling out an application form (with the stamp of an academic adviser). The careful term is that CBNU members should install rented software programs on computers that are registered as school resources. Namely, it is illegal to install rented software programs on personal computers. Therefore, you must use the rented software programs only in CBNU, such as a PC laboratory or club room. The reason for having confirmation from an academic adviser is that the I.C.C. can't take actions like the library's graduation disallowance. In the future, the I.C.C. will allow students to download the application forms for renting software programs from the site.

However, most of the software programs that the I.C.C. has is out of date, for example Photoshop 6.0, AutoCad 2000, and Namo Web Editor 4.0. These were introduced a minimum of 5 years ago. This inadequate situation is due to an insufficient budget. The budget for buying software within a year is restricted to one hundred million won. This amount is not enough for forming licenses with software companies such as Hangul or Photoshop. Therefore, the I.C.C. put basic software programs that all departments use before unusual software programs. The unusual software programs are supplied by each department, using their own budgets. According to the Department of Architectural Engineering, they themselves bought and have used AutoCad 2008, which has higher specifications than the I.C.C.'s.

If the above procedure is complicated, CBNU members can simply use the 'Software Aid Service' on the CBNU site. It is located on the menu of the online service center, which is in the Campus Life Information tab. Software Aid Service provides a service where students and professors can use basic software programs like Hangul without installing them, so this service is very helpful to students and professors who don't have software programs but need them. However, there are two limitations. First, this service's capacity is 40 people at the same time. Even though this service began 6~7years ago, the total number of users is only about 85,000. The next limitation is that the I.C.C doesn't provide this service to Windows Vista or Windows 7. According to I.C.C officer Kim, this is caused by the company of this service program. It doesn't provide upgrade versions, so the I.C.C. is thinking about introducing a new software aid program to support Windows Vista and Windows 7.
