Two Contray Thought About the Yebidaehak Program
Á¦ 124 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.05.02

CBNU students have different thoughts about the orientation program for freshmen called yebidaehak program which started this year. Some students said the program was helpful for university lives and friendship, while some students expressed complaints. They said that holding the 4th, the 5th and the 6th programs after the semester had begun was not related to the purpose of the program.

They claimed that the program's original purpose was to help freshmen to orient themselves toward college life and to plan their class registration and careers before the semester started. Ms. I, who is a freshman of the department of Korean Language & Literature, wrote in a formal online club for the class of ¡®11, "The lectures of the program were good and useful; however, I was disappointed that I took the lectures after entering school." An anonymous freshman expressed a complaint, ¡°It doesn¡¯t relate to the program¡¯s purpose because the program dragged on during the semester.¡± Kim Hee-sung, who headed the program, said, ¡°It was impossible for the program to be held in the last week of February because of departmental orientations and the graduation ceremony. Holding the program during this semester was inevitable because CBNU accepted students until right before the semester started.¡±

However, the students who participated in the program during this semester are not only the freshmen who were accepted right before the semester started but also the students who were accepted during the original registration period. She said, ¡°Many students tend to delay taking the lectures despite the fact that they can participate before entering school.¡± This problem was caused by a rumor that the program would be held during vacation. She said, ¡°We planned to stop after the 4th or the 5th programs, but many students hoped to participate during vacation. Though the 6th program was not planned, we will hold the program during this semester for students who didn¡¯t participate in the 4th or the 5th programs. Holding the programs during vacation is impossible because of many problems such as residence issues and procuring classrooms,¡± she added. ¡°Though the programs start during the semester, they aren¡¯t contrary to the program¡¯s purpose because the lectures of the program are useful for freshmen after the semester started,¡± she said.

Some freshmen claimed that the yebidaehak program which was held after the semester started was lower quality than the programs before the semester started. An anonymous freshman said, ¡°My friends who participated before the semester started said that it was fun because they could make friends and the lectures were interesting, but the program during this semester was just boring.¡± An anonymous freshman expressed a complaint, ¡°It was boring, but I had to take the lectures because it is one of the requirements for graduation.¡± Kim Hee-sung said about these responses, ¡°The contents and instructors were almost the same. Before the semester started, however, there were some interesting contents such as meetings with seniors and recreation, but those contents were during the semester programs. I think they felt bored because of these reasons.¡±

CBNU¡¯s Faculty of Liberal Education is planning to hold the 6th program in May or June. They said that they will make improvements which reflect the students¡¯ opinions for next year.
