Every February and August, PC rooms located near CBNU are always full of students who have to register for courses. Although CBNU students go to the PC rooms to enroll in classes in the early morning, PC rooms are already full of students. There are many students going back to their home with long faces because they didn't register for courses which they wanted.
CBNU students should sign up for courses twice a year. Students register for courses by accessing the Center for Information System. Until the second semester of 2010, students enrolled in courses which they wanted by entering unique course numbers.
CBNU added a new process of entering a verification code to the existing method of registering from 2011. The reason that they adopted the verification code is to prevent students' dishonest acts and to promote fairness.
However, many CBNU students disagree with the school's policy. As a result of a survey of 100 CBNU students, students who are more satisfied with the present method of enrolling in courses is just 7. Jeong Da-hee(Education '10) expressed, "I was devastated by the introduction of the verification code. Although I exactly entered the verification code, errors consistently occurred, so I couldn't register for required subjects for my major. I have to submit additional applications to register for my courses. I worry whether the professor of the subject will accept me."
Students are discontent with both the previous system and the new process of enrolling in courses. The main problem is the lack of the number of servers. Han Dong-gyun(Department of German Language and Literature, '04) said, "There are 20,000 CBNU students. CBNU students should finish enrolling in courses within 5 days. The number of CBNU servers is not sufficient to support 20,000 students' access, so it is natural that servers can be down and errors can occur."
CBNU has two servers for registering for courses. In addition, the computers which take charge of the servers are impaired because they have been around for 5~6 years. Compared with national universities like Pusan National University and Gangwon National University which have 12 servers, the number of CBNU servers is unduly insufficient. The educational affairs section has requested a budget which will be used for constructing new servers to solve the problem which has occurred yearly. However, CBNU has overlooked the importance of increasing the servers used for registering for courses, so the university doesn't provide them with a budget yet. Therefore, it is hard for the educational affairs to increase the number of servers this year.
CBNU has set up registering sequence in the order of seniors, freshmen, juniors and sophomores in consideration of the small number of servers. Since many required subjects have been assigned to sophomores and juniors, after reaching the maximum number many sophomores and juniors have to individually request professors to accept their additional applications. Moreover, many juniors and seniors take lectures which should have been taken when they were freshmen and sophomores because few professors accept additional applications about registering for courses. These whole process has been really painful.
Many students who participated in the survey said that the best way to solve these yearly problems is to increase the number of servers. Jeong Ji-won(Medicine 09') complained, "If increasing the number of servers can't be achieved, CBNU should increase the number of lectures which have the same content and title. Above all, required subjects for sophomores and juniors should only be registered in by them."
