Lack of Supports for Club Activities Because of CBNU Does Not Have Sufficient Finance
Á¦ 129 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.11.28
Reaching a compromise between CBNU and students over club support is difficult
A total of 63 clubs have been established in CBNU. There are various kinds of clubs from volunteer work clubs to academy clubs. The clubs are located in the former student hall and 12 dong.
Compared to club activities which are actively run by students, the facilities for club activities are very old. We can easily notice the seriousness by seeing the appearance of the former student hall and 12 dong.
CBNU doesn't allocate any part of its annual budget for students' club activities. The Office of Student Affairs(OSA) of CBNU distributes money only to 'student welfare work' to encourage the Independent Student Orgnization(ISO) to run businesses. The Federation of CBNU Clubs(FCC) has run clubs by receiving money from the ISO. Some of the money which they receive from the ISO is usually used to recruit new club members and to support participating competitions. Therefore, there is no money which will be used for repairing or modernizing old facilities. If the FCC requires Installation Section(IS) to fix their club room facilities, then the IS gives them money after deliberation.
Hong Jeong-pyo(Dept of Political Science and Diplomacy 11'), who has participated in IVF, a Christian club, said, "The conditions in club rooms are poor. There is no air-conditioner or heating in our building, so we feel cold in the winter and hot in the summer. In addition, we have difficulty communicating with each other even in the same room, because the soundproof facilities are not good. The size of the club rooms is so small that we can't accomodate all our club members.
Lee Jin-young(School of Management Information System 11'), who is in WIZ, an actual investment club, said, "I think that CBNU did nothing for encouraging club activities except for providing 'student welfare work' with a little money. We need computers for actual investment. However, CBNU doesn't provide enough computers for us. Although students founded clubs and have run them of their own free will, club activities are also a part of university life. Therefore, I hope that CBNU will  financially support some parts of club activities.
However, CBNU also is in a predicament about not accepting students' demands. Lim Won-jeong, an officer of OSA, said, "We have known that the former student hall and 12 dong are very old and that club rooms' facilities are deteriorated. We need to invest in improving club rooms' facilities for students. The ex-president of FCC had required us to improve club facilities. However, CBNU doesn't have sufficient money to be allocated for public facilities and the education. Therefore, distributing a budget for improving club facilities is difficult."
Students and CBNU are not yet reaching an agreement over financial support to club activities. This conflict will deepen, and it seems hard to be solved anytime soon.
