'Experts of Living' Class Gives Students Wisdom of Life
Á¦ 135 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2012.10.06

'Experts of Living(EL)' Class was held in the Starlight Restaurant every Thursday in September at 6 p.m. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the New Student Union Building at CBNU. The EL Class was started last April, and the classes which were held in September were the fourth session. The EL Class is a program where old people teach cooking, life lessons and etiquette of living to young people.
The Social Integration Commission, which is attached to the president, organized this program to help old people and young people to understand and communicate with each other. The commission provides all materials which are required in the management of the EL Class and confers certificates on the students who attend all four classes.
Teachers of the EL Classes instructed how to make Kimchi Stew and Braised Pan-Fried Tofu in the first week and how to make four different side dishes(Stir-fried Anchovies, Boiled Peanuts in Soy Sauce, Seasoned Bean Sprouts and Omelets) in the second week. They lectured how to sew and how to iron shirts and pants in the third week. Finally, students learned how to put on a Hanbok and how to situationally bow in the last week.
Min Young-ja, a 73-year-old woman who belongs to Cheongju Senior Club, said, "It is worthwhile for me to hand down the methods and the wisdom of old people to young people through the EL Class. In addition, I am happy because students study very hard."
The number of EL Class teachers is 10, and teachers were selected depending on lecture ability at Cheongju Senior Club. The class progressed after forming teams which consist of one teacher and two students.
Son Seong-hyeon(Dept. of Child Welfare '10) said, "I applied for the EL Class due to promotion materials on the bulletin board at my department. I was comfortable while I was learning various things because the teachers looked like mothers. During the four weeks, the EL Class was beneficial, and I would like to recommend this class to other friends."
The fifth and sixth sessions of the EL Class are scheduled for October and November. Not only CBNU students but also Cheongju citizens in their early 30's may apply for this program.
