The smoking areas in CBNU are decreasing

In modern society, most people like to stop smoking. The smoking rate of men has steadily decreased. Since 2001, the smoking rate of men decreased from about 70 percent to about 30 percent in 2010. It said that the cognition of smoking has largely changed. In accordance with that, non-smoking areas have steadily increased. Smoking was not permitted anywhere inside buildings. The representative example is department stores and cafes. So how does CBNU cope with the non-smoking trend of society?
The non-smoking areas of CBNU are decided by various departments. The Department of Student Affairs¡¯ office members decide No.1 Student Union Building¡¯s smoking areas, and the Department of General Affairs¡¯ office members decide Hall of NOVA APERIO Culture¡¯s smoking areas. In addition, the non-smoking areas of each college are decided by the dean of each college. In this way, each building has non-smoking areas. However, smoking is prohibited in common areas such as lecture rooms, hallways, restaurants and offices. Nobody can smoke in these places. In reality, the problem is some of the smoking areas are not properly decided. It is easy to see students smoke on porches of colleges or the highest flight of stairs because of this. Many people come and go to these places. Many people suffer from secondhand smoke. Most of them feel displeasure with this.

Do CBNU students think the smoking areas of CBNU are properly decided or not?
"There are few smoking areas at CBNU and students can't find them easily. It is because the smoking areas are not located in places that students usually use. In porches and stairs of each building, even those of the Central Library, they often smoke. This is an unpleasant act because other people suffer from secondhand smoke as they come and go. The campus of CBNU is where many students live together, so students should have consideration for each other. In addition, I hope that officers of the Department of Student Affairs, officers of the Department of General Affairs and officers of each college make the smoking areas for smokers, even if the places are small, to make a pleasant campus and comfortable learning environment." -nonsmoker, Yun Su-min(Dept. of Architecture, ¡¯11)
¡°There are few smoking areas at CBNU. The smoking areas in department stores and cafes are located for smokers. However, there are very few areas on CBNU campus. As a result, people who want to smoke usually leave the building. The problem is that there are few outside places where people can comfortably smoke. The proper places people can smoke are porches of buildings or benches because they can't smoke in the middle of the road. Those are where nonsmokers also come and go. It is a problem that smokers can't cope with. Officers of the Department of Student Affairs, officers of the Department of General Affairs and officers of each college should provide smokers with smoking areas that they can easily and comfortably use." - A student of CBNU who smokes.
Most students said that the smoking areas are not properly located. Smokers and nonsmokers agree with the necessity of smoking areas again. Consequently, officers of the Department of Student Affairs, officers of the Department of General Affairs and officers of each college that decided the smoking areas in CBNU should additionally decide on new smoking areas. Although they decided the non-smoking areas, they didn't decide the smoking areas. Now, most buildings in CBNU are smoke-free. We can find good ideas in some colleges. Signs that say, ¡°Why don¡¯t smokers go ten steps from a porch, and there are smoking areas¡±, are attached to the porches of the College of Business. Smoking on porches gives other people displeasure. In addition, a "Smoking area¡± sign, is located near the large bicycle rack of the back door of the second floor in the law school. Other colleges that decided on the smoking areas in CBNU may need to decide on the smoking areas along with the non-smoking areas to provide students with convenience as the above colleges decided their smoking areas.
