International Education Center

¡ã Students are joining the English class of the international the International Education Center.

The International Education Center makes international exchange its prime objective. They also teach English and Chinese classes for the Koreans and Korean classes for foreigners. In addition, the International Education Center holds an ¡®Employment English Camp¡¯during every vacation. In the case of the English classes, there are English conversation classes that are seperated into 4 levels depending on English ability. Students take tests and are assigned a class by the results of the tests. All students who join those classes can be taught by foreign teachers. The classes are concerned with English certification; TOIEC/TOFFL are divided into their designed scores from 400 to 800. Jeong Jin-Hyuk(Dept. International Education Center team leader) said, ¡°The best part of the International Education Center is the excellent instructors. We select foreign teachers whose teaching skills and abilities are the same level as university professors¡¯. Also, the Korean teachers have to pass an exam and interviews before entering the International Education Center.¡±
But some students who took the ISEP class, which is a program in the International Education Center, said, ¡°Their program is not more systematic than an academy¡¯s and the classes are too short to fully understand the classes. On that point, the International Education Center said, ¡°Students should not compare International Education Center programs with academy programs. It is fragmentary thinking. First of all, if they are discontent with class hours, we can fix it, but we can¡¯t change the time for only a few people.¡±
The International Education Center replied to student¡¯s complaints. ¡°We wish that, if students had complaints, they would come and tell us about it. However, they should not judge us by comparing us with academies. Academies are profit organizations, but we are not. The teaching method of teaching one thing for a long time, which is used in academies, is not always good for university students. That tells students too much, and it is a trick the academies use to hold students for a long time. The International Education Center is a state institution. Students should follow us with trust.¡±
In addition, the International Education Center answered to people who complained that the International Education Center program doesn¡¯t have classes for students who have over a 900 score. ¡°Normally, students who have over a 900 score don¡¯t want to take a class. The International Education Center is managed for the majority of students. Therefore, it is hard to make a class only for a few elite students.¡± Also, ¡°Most students who want to take a class have a score between 400 to 500. That¡¯s why we make most classes aim for these scores. Some students misunderstand that the school only supports students who have low scores.¡±
The International Education Center feels sorry for student¡¯s low participation of the International Education Center programs. ¡°We think we have to do our best for students, so we advertise our programs variously. For freshmen, we advertise to each student before they come to school. For enrolled students, we post a notice on bulletin boards. However, we hope students themselves will be concerned and look up programs which are suitable for them.¡±
The International Education Center made a new advertising strategy for students before starting the term. He said, ¡°We will open a presentation twice concerned with a language training program for students. Then, we will improve the presentation before the freshmen¡¯s obligatory school program for next year¡¯s freshmen. The International Education Center told us they would keep thinking about advertising strategies because they want all students to know about the International Education Center program and join it.
