The Effort of Saving Electricity
Á¦ 142 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2013.09.02

Chungbuk National University (CBNU) was striving to keep pace with the hard task of saving electricity. In order to save electricity, the Department of Facilities Management of CBNU implemented the means of electric fan installation, attaching stickers about saving electricity and installing sprinklers on the roof of buildings.
The Korean government expected the worst  electricity power shortage  this summer. The government ordered public institutions and industries to reduce  15% of the use of electricity for the period  between July and August in contrast to last year. Public institutions and industries had to follow the orders of the government. In these circumstances, the Department of Facilities Management checked the use of electricity between July 1st and 16th. The result was that the use of electricity has increased 11% in comparison with the same period of last year. CBNU held a meeting of a special counterplan for the practice of saving in detail in the summer. The meeting was   held to check the condition of saving every Tuesday.
CBNU installed ninety two electric fans in classrooms and laboratories. For instance, the thirty nine classrooms used during the summer session had sixty four fans installed. The seven teachers¡¯ laboratories had fourteen fans installed. These facilities made the air conditioner more effective. The stickers notified about turning off automatic switches during the day in bathrooms were attached at 397 places in 47 buildings. The sprinklers set up on the roof of buildings for cooling down the temperature of buildings. The facilities operate from 9am to 5:30pm and repeat to stop operation for two hours after operation for thirty minutes. The sprinklers make the temperature of rooms cooler by 2 degrees. In addition to installation facilities, CBNU tried to induce the volunteered participation of students by holding a contest about saving electricity, which was found to be a more creative plan and helped publicizing the importance of saving electricity to CBNU people.
As a result, the use of electricity between August 1st and 20th was down by  4% in contrast to the last year. Kim Hak(an employee of the Department of Facilities Management) said about saving electricity, ¡°If we are striving to save electricity with students, we could save more electricity.¡±
Park Jung-gun(¡¯07, School of Civil Engineering) said, ¡°It is great to hear about keeping pace with saving electricity complying with the government guideline. After hearing that, I become interested in saving electricity. I expect to be joined by more CBNU people.¡±
