Caution: Reports of Pervert Appearance around Campus
제 145 호    발행일 : 2013.12.02
Last month, there were 5 reports uploaded on the free bulletin board of the Chungbuk National University App about the appearance of a pervert around school. One witness, Lee Kyung-nan(’10, Dept. of Animal Science), said, “When I was walking down the stairs behind the College of Human Ecology building, a man was standing right beside a car. I felt a weird vibe, and when I looked at him closely he was staring at me with no clothes on below the waist. I was so flustered that I had to pretend I didn’t see anything and tried to run away from that place as fast as I could.” I asked her if she reported it to the police or to the school after witnessing it, and she replied, “I told my friends about it, but I didn’t report it anywhere. I was very flustered when I saw him, but the question was raised whether I should report it to the police since the pervert hadn’t used any violence.” Even if students witness a pervert, a lot of them don’t know how to react or handle the situation.
About the situation, Lee Jong-hi, a staff member in the Office of Students Affairs, Student Service Section said, “If our students don’t report these things to us, we don’t know if a pervert has appeared around our school or not. If you’ve seen a pervert, please contact the Office of Students Affair or the ADT CAPS.” He also added, “To prevent these situations from now on, as a note of caution, we will send out an official document to the whole school and announce it to the students through the school press. We will also support the student body with the budget to hang up a campaign banner to make students aware of the pervert’s appearance. Additionally, we will contact the campus police to patrol around the buildings carefully where the pervert frequently appears.”
A police officer of the local constabulary has explained that the pervert seems to appear regardless of day or night, and he usually targets women and small elementary students. Since perverts tend to feel aroused when they see people being startled, it’s better to act indifferent and apathetic when encountering a pervert. After escaping the uncomfortable situation, it’s smart to call the closest constabulary as they will arrive at the scene in less than 5 minutes.
According to the reports that were uploaded in the CBNU app last month, the pervert seems to appear mostly around the College of Education building and the College of Human Ecology building. Therefore, students should be extra careful when they walk by those buildings. It’s better to walk where there are a lot of surveillance cameras. During the night, it’s also a good idea to take a brightly lit road full of streets lights. Furthermore, when returning home from school at night, calling the General Female Students Association to use the pink taxi service is another way to prevent bumping into the pervert. Despite this, if you run into a pervert, it’s better to act aloof and walk away from the scene. To provide evidence to the police, it will be helpful to have pictures of them or remember their appearance. Finally, remembering to call the Office of Students Affairs or the ADT CAPS right after the encounter can help prevent another CBNU student from being turned into a victim.
