Why Do People Wear Pajamas Every Day?
제 137 호    발행일 : 2012.12.01

The Holocaust showed extreme violence of humanity and that was one of the most important events in the twentieth century. Numerous Holocaust movies have appeared lately. Most people know that the movies, Roman Polanskin's "The Pianist" and Spielberg's "Schindler's List" are related with the Holocaust. This time, the present report will introduce 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas', which is a movie looking at the Holocaust through the innocent eyes of children.
Bruno is an 8-year-old boy growing up during World War II in Berlin. Young Bruno lives a wealthy lifestyle in pre-war Germany along with his mother, elder sister, and father. The family relocates to the countryside where his father is assigned to take command of a prison camp. A few days later, Bruno makes a friend, strangely dressed in striped pajamas, named Shmuel, who lives behind an electrified fence. They plan to explore the prison camp. The plan is that Bruno will also enter the prison camp wearing striped pajamas. They take each other's hands until the end of the movie, but they die.
The movie 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas' doesn’t directly show abuse scenes. However, viewers are shocked of the Jewish situation during the Holocaust through children's eyes. Bruno and Shmuel didn't know the meaning of war because they were very young. Viewers can accept the horror of war through Bruno and Shmuel. The movie’s story is not some far away disaster. It only happened seventy years ago. Even at this moment, a lot of people are suffering from war. We wish world may be a peaceful place, where everyone loves each other and helps each other like the true friendship between Bruno and Shmuel.
