Brexit. What is Britain¡¯s Fate?
Á¦ 166 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2016.09.01

On the 23rd of March, Brexit (Britain's exit from the EU) has been decided by a 51.9%¡¯s agreement. Despite any financial organization¡¯s warnings that Britain¡¯s GDP will drop, British chose to exit EU.
One of the biggest reasons that people agreed to Brexit is Britain¡¯s support fund to the EU. EU has supported poor countries with a member support fund. According to statistics, Britain has raised the 4th highest funds, followed by Germany, France, and Italy, but the benefits has been too small comparatively. To make matters worse, the increase of expenses to EU caused by Southern Europe¡¯s financial crisis and the Middle East has raised Britain¡¯s dissatisfaction with EU.
Moreover, an inflow of foreign workers because of the chaos by democratization in the Middle East, such as Syrian refugees heading to Europe, and the possibility of Turkey¡¯s joining EU were seen as the leading causes of leading Brexit. In addition to this, it has been discovered that the restrictions that EU countries have to follow to trade with foreign countries are so ineffective.
Even though the vote is over, it is predicted that there will be great chaos in Britain since the vote didn¡¯t reflect all people¡¯s opinions well. According to Huffington Post UK¡¯s data, 73% of the age group of 18~24 and 64% of the age group 25~33 supported remaining in EU, giving the reasons of free immigration or employment in EU. However, people aged more than 45 supported Brexit, giving the reason of hating foreign workers. What is worse, contrary to 36% of the age group 18~24¡¯s turnout, 83% of people aged more than 65 voted. It means that the youth¡¯s opinions were reflected much lower than the elders¡¯.
Not only that, it is predicted that the conflict between the British Commonwealth of Nations will be get more severe. Scotland and Northern Ireland wanted to remain in EU. As a result, after Brexit was decided, they resisted it. Nicola Sturgeon, the minister of Scotland¡¯s government, said, ¡°If Brexit is decided, the vote will mean the independence of Scotland¡± in the 23rd of June, firmly expressing a strong will to remain in EU.
Also, confusion with international security with NATO(North Atlantic Treaty Organizations), led by the USA, is also worrisome. Our university¡¯s professor in the Dept. of Political Science and International Relations, Jung Tae-il, has stated his view. ¡°After World War II, the USA¡¯s security system for Europe has been completed by NATO. If Britain supports USA strongly in Nato exit EU, there is a possibility to cause ¡®a power vacuum¡¯. It means that the security system led by the USA may collide with China¡¯s and Russia¡¯s policy of supremacy extension. It may be dangerous for not only Europe but also the whole world.¡±
