[Desk Column] Have You Thought about Granting Wishes to Other People?
Á¦ 142 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2013.09.02

¡®Do you grant wishes to other people?¡¯ Only some people will be able to say ¡®yes¡¯ to this question. We all have many wishes and make these wishes. There are many ways to make a wish such as wishing on a star or blowing out a candle. However, we don¡¯t think that we can grant other people¡¯s wishes. Incidentally, I had a special experience to grant another person¡¯s wish during the summer vacation. Because of this, I could feel the value of granting a wish.
I participated in a volunteer activity of the ¡®Make A Wish¡¯ foundation that grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions. I met a child through this activity. The child made a wish to have a princess room. Thus, I decorated the princess room with my team members for 1 month. We purchased necessary goods and planned events for the child. We could see her smile and feel the pleasure of granting a wish.
Making a wish is very easy. Put your hands together and close your eyes; make a wish in spirit. Then, that is the end of making a wish. However, granting a wish is more complicated. We also made a lot of preparations for the child¡¯s wish. We had to choose the kind of furniture for decorating the room that fit our budget and the size of child¡¯s room. In addition, we had to allow for shipping dates. We couldn¡¯t neglect a single item for the child. Other than the goods, we had to map out various events. While we prepared the child¡¯s wish, we experienced setbacks. However, the child was delighted as we went through the trouble and we also felt like we were doing something meaningful.
Granting a wish is pretty awkward for those of us who are accustomed only to making wishes. Moreover, some people might think, ¡°Do I need to grant the wish of another person?¡± We think our own wishes are the most important. However, why don¡¯t you take an interest in the wishes of other people? Wishes don¡¯t come true by themselves. To grant a wish, we should help other people. If you pay attention to another person¡¯s wish first, they also will be able help you. In addition, granting a wish is a very rewarding job. I want you to be able to feel that feeling.
