On September 23, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST) designated Chungbuk National University(CBNU) as a university which should be restructured by the University Evaluation System. MEST insisted that CBNU should reform their structure because CBNU ranked 11 among 12 national universities which have more than 10,000 students. The criteria of this evaluation were rate of employment, scholarship amounts, personnel expenses and level of internationalization. CBNU said about this criteria, "These evaluation standards are not appropriate for local national universities. This is unfair." | |

CBNU Summer English Career Camp was held for four weeks beginning on June 22 in the Center for International Affairs. Unlike the last winter camp ran for excellent students only, this camp was for students with low self-confidence. The TOEIC scores of students who participated in this camp have improved by an average of 120 points. | |

Otaku is a Japanese term used to refer to people with obsessive interests in one thing or who have professional knowledge in a special field. Recently, the Central National Police Agency measured how long it takes for policemen to arrive at the scene of a crime after reporting. The result revealed that the Chungbuk Police Agency recorded 7 minutes and 20 seconds(Codes 1 and 2) this year and Chungbuk area was selected as the slowest. The quickest region was Busan, which recorded 2 minutes and 42 seconds. There was a 4 minute and 38 second difference in the average arrival time between Busan and Chungbuk. | |

In accordance with its conviction, 'Love makes the impossible possible', there is a school which gives hope to hearing-impaired students. 'Glove', a film directed by Kang Woo-suk, was released in January of this year. 'Glove' was based on the true story about the baseball team from that school. The team members heard in their minds instead of their ears, and they presented pleasure and hope to people with disorders. Also, the film called attention to deaf people. -ED | |
