The Gaesin Daedong Festival Raised a Curtain Carefully
Á¦ 127 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2011.10.01
The Festival was Held with Concerns

From September 28 to the 30, the Gaeshin Daedong Festival was held. More various programs than last year pleased the eyes and ears of the students in this festival. The campaign of Dokdo Guards, 100 on 100 meeting and the club party were held on the first day, and the futsal competition was managed for students in each college on the 29th. This festival ended after the Chungbuk Rock Festival on Sep. 30th. The relay lecture was a good chance to listen to valuable lectures of sell-known figures. Seoul University's Department of Veterinaty Medicine, Professor Woo Hee-jong, and Ha Jong-gang, an ex-chief of the Hanul Labor Institute, and many intellectuals were there.

Furthermore, this festival provided special entertainment such as Beauty Zone, Play Zone and Photo Zone. First, Beauty Zone offered many beauty programs such as Make-up, Henna and Nail Art for free. The professional instructors of the SBS Beauty Academy also participated in this program. It also managed programs for male students to overcome the prejudice that make-up is only for women. In addition, Beauty Zone presented T-shirts to the first 100 people through the event 'Create T-shirts for yourself'. 'Find a sharp dresser in our school' was also popular.

Secondly, Play Zone was full of trampolines, the Ghost House and the Wii Game Competition. The Ghost House was opened for the first two days of the festival in building No. 04. The program was so popular that the students had to wait their turn for over an hour. The General Students' Association encouraged the students to participate in the Ghost House by presenting gift after they finished mission. Also, the GSA implemented programs of putting their hopes on a tree, taking memorable Polaroid pictures and experiencing a new DSLR camera.

Shin Sung-min, who is a student of the Department of Biology 10', said, ¡°I think that I should participate in the festival prepared by the students who worked hard. When I bounced on a trampoline with my friends for quite a while, I recalled the memories of my childhood. I was satisfied with this festival because the programs were better than last year.¡±

The GSA has improved the satisfaction of students about this festival. However, they took criticism until the festival was closed. Right before the festival, students wanted to abolish the festival because CBNU was selected for restructuring which is forced by the government.

There were many dissatisfied students studying in the Central Library. A CBNU student, who has studied every day in the library, said, ¡°When I was studying in the library, events that roasted pork bellies and played loud music were held in front of the library. Because of this, the lobby of the library and the reading room were full of smells of pork bellies and the sounds of music, so I was disturbed. I don¡¯t understand this behavior such as roasting meats in front of the place where many people study.¡±

Meanwhile, a CBNU student posted his opinion on the CBNU cafe in Daum. He said, "Many students complained about the festival programs placed nearby the Central Library. However, anyone who saw the posters for the Gaeshin Dadong festival could easily have known about the festival events close to the library. If they are rational students, they should have studied in Hyeonge-seol building or their house during the festival. Also, the festival was already planned and promoted before CBNU had been selected as one of the poorly managed universities. Although CBNU got a dishonourable title, I think it would be smart to enjoy the festival on its sixtieth birthday. The university students are not people who just study."

With divergent students' opinions about the festival, the Gaeshin Daedong Festival ended after three days. Ahn Tae-hong, who is a student of the Department of Computer Engineering, felt a sense of frustration about the festival. He said, "If it was not rainy during this festival, it could have been more pleasant. In addition, it was difficult to know when, where and what events were being held, except for the programs which were not conducted by the GSA. I want the committee of the festival to distribute information brochures at the next festival."
