The GSA 'Giant' Managed a Second-hand Bookstore

The GSA members are selling the second-books

Every semester, the bookstore in the Gasin Cultural Center is crowded with students who try to buy new books. However, students who ask the clerks about the prices are visibly gloomy because they are burdened by the prices. To lighten their financial burden, Giant General Students Association(GSA) opened the second-hand bookstore from March 7 to 9 in front of the New Student¡¯s Hall. The GSA actively encouraged the students to donate second-hand books from March 2 to 6 for the opening. Thus, the GSA collected 277 books from students.

Many students congregated in the New Student¡¯s hall and purchased the books in a long line from the first day. The GSA reduced the price by half and also subtracted 1,000won from the reduced price. Lee Jung-hyun(Dept of Consumerism ¡¯11), who participated in the second-hand bookstore, said, ¡°I felt really great about buying the inexpensive non-major books. However, I could not buy the expensive major books because the number of books was quite small, so I was very disappointed.¡±

Also, Im-hyuk(Dept of Management Information Systems¡¯ 10), said, ¡°Major books are usually more than 30,000won. I think that this second-hand bookstore, which was opened by the GSA, was useful for students to lessen their financial burdens. Also, by buying the second-hand books instead of new books, we could save resources which are used for making the books. In this respect, this bookstore had a very good cause and was a good example for sharing¡± Moreover, he added, ¡°This bookstore was very great, but I hope that we can make an online club for handling only second-hand books. Kyungwon University runs an online club, which is titled by Kyungwon University¡¯s Second-hand Bookstore. The online club was very bustling in the beginning of the term.¡±

Thanks to the students¡¯ active participation, the GSA sold a total of 145 books, so they made a profit of 1,139,000won. In addition, ten percent of the profit is expected to be donated to Angel Scholarship. The GSA distributed unsold books and 1,025,100won, except the 10%, to students who donated the books, through March 16th. This bookstore was run on a large scale, whereas previous bookstores was run by each college on a small scale. As a result, many students could benefit from this bookstore. The GSA said, ¡°We are very thankful for students¡¯ active
participation. Actually, we worried that the number of donated books was very small, but we comforted ourselves by the fact that many students donated the books beyond our expectation.¡±

Meanwhile, many students experienced inconvenience when they could not check which books were on sale. Students mainly asked the GSA members to find the books, but they couldn¡¯t meet students¡¯ demands because they were also busy. The GSA said, ¡°On the whole, students seemed to be satisfied, but this bookstore left much to be desired. We are sorry that we didn¡¯t provide the students with more convenience.¡±

According to the GSA, the next second-hand bookstore is scheduled to open in September this year with the students¡¯ support. The GSA said, ¡°We will fix the defects concerning this bookstore, so we guarantee many students¡¯ convenience in September.¡±
