Many students visit the Chungbuk National University(CBNU) Library to use the reading room. However, the number of students who don't keep the basic manners is increasing. They do not return seats and leave garbage on desks.
The suggestion board in the library, once was filled with suggestions on facilities and books, is now filled with posts about the seating arrangement equipment. In addition, complaints about the use of library frequently appear on the CBNU cafe of Daum.
The number of CBNU Library users is about 130,000~160,000 per a month. During exam period, the number of users increases by 50,000~70,000 more people than usual. Most CBNU Library users go to the library to study. Lee Tae-hyeon(Dept. of Materials Engineering¡¯ 11) said, ¡°Since I started using the reading room, I have never been uncomfortable.¡± He was content with students¡¯ manners about using reading rooms. Meanwhile, Shin Gi-chang(Dept. of Electronics Engineering¡¯ 09) said, ¡°When I was a freshman, the library was noisy because it wasn¡¯t sound proof. The library installed a door in front of the reading room. However, some students occasionally answer their phones in the reading room. I was embarrassed when I saw those people.¡± And he added, ¡°Some students don't recognize that the reading room is a public facility. I wish they had more consideration for others.¡± Moreover, he wanted students to close the door when they go in and out of the reading room. Yeon Soo-jung(Dept. of Wood and Paper Science¡¯ 09) said, ¡°Some students do not clean up their trash before they leave. Therefore, I must get rid of all this junk to use a seat. This is very inconvenient.¡± She expressed dissatisfaction about the wrong attitudes of these students. In addition, she hopes that students will keep their phones¡¯ text messages and KakaoTalk alarm on vibrate or silent mode. Other complaints are about no returning seats, going in and out incessantly, and making noise in the lobby.
Park Jong-woo, who works in the delivery room of the CBNU Library, said, ¡°Other universities are very quiet. However, CBNU Library¡¯s atmosphere is distracting because there are gates at both the front and the rear of the library. Some students get in the library to use it as a shortcut. Most CBNU students are good, but a few students sometimes act like babies.¡± He thinks the biggest troubles are the buzz of conversations and the sounds of high heels. He said about the high heels noise, ¡°This is a thorny issue for our library as well as other libraries. The best way is to wear sneakers when they come to the library. If it is so inevitable, I hope they will walk quietly when wearing high heels.¡± Also, he said about the reading room, "I have worked there for 20 years. The students' affection for the reading room has been decreasing compared to the past. 20 years old, the library was short of seats, and there was no seating arrangement equipment. At that time, students waited in line at the tennis court to save seats from four-thirty in the morning. I think the reason why students don¡¯t respect seats is that it's easier to reserve seats now.¡±
