Giljabi Byeolnaru for Meeting and Communicating through the Books
Á¦ 160 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2015.11.02

This semester, a small library has formed near the front lawn of the College of Humanities. The name of this library is Giljabi Byeolnaru, which means the Pole Star to guide. This library is just a small bookcase of wood and everyone who is a Chungbuk National University student can use this. The purpose of this library is to be a place of communication or a shelter for people who love books. People can gather and can talk about the future of our community, like the Pole Star that guides us with several other stars.
This library lets students borrow and return books themselves. Students take out a notebook from the bookcase and write their name, major and so on. The time limit of borrowing and returning is not fixed. A feature of this is the reading meeting, and ¡®Byeol-ting¡¯ is the name of it. This opens at 4 p.m. on the first and third fridays of every month, and it is held in the lobby of the College of Humanities, next to the copy center. People bring and read books and converse about books.
An Hye-seung(¡¯15, Dept. of Philosophy), who participated in the establishment of this library, said, ¡°I think books are great keys to connect people. Therefore, I want to read, think and talk about the books with other people rather than by myself. I hope that Giljabi Byeolnaru will become a new way of communication. It would be good if places where people can converse freely about books like Giljabi Byeolnaru became more common.¡±
Kim Sang-un(¡¯15, Dept. of Urban Engineering), who borrowed a book at Giljabi Byeolnaru, said, ¡°I have to make up my mind to borrow a book when I want to read books at the library. However, whenever I want to read some books at Giljabi Byeolnaru, I can feel free to borrow books at Giljabi Byeolnaru. I think that it is a good point that I can borrow books while just passing by. It is also good that the time limit of borrowing and returning books does not exist. On the other hand, this point can be a weakness, if someone returns a book late, other students have less chance to read the book. Although I am a student of the College of Engineering, I often enjoy reading about the humanities. I like the point that other college students also can borrow books at Giljabi Byeolnaru.¡±
Communication is a distinct feature of Giljabi Byeolnaru. Kim Jin-woong, who is working in a humanities laboratory of CBNU, said, ¡°It seems that our university has barriers of communication between each college and university people. I expect that it will be broken by communication through the books. Giljabi Byeolnaru can also be developed by reading books together and exchanging opinions. I hope that not only will this type of place continue to thrive but that it will also be known to many people.¡±
