What Do You Think about the Abrupt Requests from Candidates?
Á¦ 161 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2015.11.30

During CBNU election campaigns, we could frequently see candidates electioneering in our university in November. As almost every election has rules, there also exist some bylaws in the CBNU election. According to the CBNU Election Committee, the CBNU election consists of 13 bylaws. Among them, we are going to talk about the chapter of qualifications.
It is stated in the chapter of qualifications that in order to run for the Student Union, an election team must gain a fixed quantity of recommend signatures from students, but depending on the type of the Student Union, the percent of signatures changes. For example, an election team running for the General Student Union, including the General Female Student Union, must gain 10% of the signatures of all students, and an election team running for the College Student Union must gain 20~30% of the signatures of the college students in relation to the scale of the college.
In the present situation, there were some students who felt embarrassed or frustrated because some candidates asked the students to write their signatures without any explanation or introduction. Son Kwan-soo(¡¯12, French Language and Literature), who felt the same way, said, ¡°At that time, I was going to Jung-mun with my friend. Then, a candidate approached us and abruptly handed us a paper, asking for a signature without any explanation. The reason why I felt uncomfortable was due to his attitude.¡±
The CBT reporter have also met with two people directly related to the CBNU election and heard about their opinions regarding this problem. Jeong Da-eun(¡¯14, French Language and Literature), one of the candidates in 2014, said, ¡°I also had to get some signatures from students, but I was trying not to make the students feel uncomfortable by introducing myself and explaining things related to the election. First and foremost, I think that our usual behavior is important, which means that we always need to mind our p¡¯s and q¡¯s.¡±
Lee Woo-ju(Student President), a member of the CBNU Election Committee, said, ¡°We enacted the bylaw about qualifications of a candidate to avoid a bad situation where a candidate who is not verified by students could become a member of the Student Union. We therefore have no plan to abolish or change this bylaw, and I think that this problem can be fixed by changing the candidates¡¯ attitudes.¡±
It seems like all students¡¯ efforts are required for an impartial CBNU election. For example, the candidates consistently have to show trustworthy behavior to the students and give them enough explanation about the meaning of the signatures before asking, and the students who are asked to give their signatures also have to think twice before signing. Finally, by doing so, the future of the CBNU election will improve.
