Kim Jong-seo, who was elected as president of the 2018 student council, said, ¡°Most of all, I want to say that thanks to all students. Forget about previous student councils. We will not exist separately from the students, and we will be with the students as much as our name is Gong Gam. We want to empathize with you. Again, I appreciate your support. Thank you very much.¡±

From November 16th to the 29th, the 50th annual CBNU student council election for 2018 was held. There were two teams. Election team 1 was named Family Picture, and election team 2 was named Gong Gam. The two teams canvassed for two weeks. On November 30th, Gong Gam was finally elected as the new student council. Though the election has concluded, we would like to take a look at the process of the 2018 Student Council Election in CBNU.
On November 9th, there was a lottery drawing between the registered candidates, and the very next day, the status of the candidates¡¯ registration was first announced on the Facebook page of the CBNU Emergency Planning Committee. On November 23rd, a policy debate was held between the two teams in the Gaesin Cultural Center. The candidates for Family Picture were Jeong Se-hwan(¡¯14, Dept. of Environmental Engineering) and Jung Eui-hwan(¡¯13, Dept. of Food Science & Biotechnology). The slogan of Family Picture was ¡®Memories that we will have together forever.¡¯ The candidates for Gong Gam, were Kim Jong-seo(¡¯14, Dept. of Economics) and Park Je-se(¡¯13, Dept. of Forest Science). Their slogan was ¡®Gong Gam empathizes with you, and you will be empathized by Gong Gam.¡¯
The winners of the 2018 student council election, Gong Gam, stand for listening to what students want, sharing together, and feeling together. Gong Gam chose green as their representative color because it is the color that best matches the word ¡®empathy¡¯. Gong Gam said they ran in the election because they empathize with the students and want to improve CBNU for the students.
Gong Gam has made six representative pledges to the students: to notify students about detailed grade criteria, to hold a contest to replace the twenty-year-old slogan and mascot, to hold a Gong Gam festival that all students can enjoy, to push ahead with the abolition of dormitory curfews, to create an application for mobile student IDs, and to push ahead with the TOEIC test plan so that students can take the test at CBNU.
There were various questions about their election pledges during the policy debate. The following questions and answers are the students¡¯ questions concerning the Gong Gam pledges and the responses by Gong Gam.

In order to operate a mobile student ID system, I heard that personal information of students should be handed over to the mobile student ID developer. I think it will cause problems. I also worry it will cost a lot to create an application for it. I wonder how Gong Gam will resolve these problems. - Han Dong-hun(¡¯13, Dept. of International business)

We already received comparative estimates through several mobile developers. We have chosen one of them and submitted the estimate to the Dept. of Student Affairs of University Headquarters. The Dept. of Student Affairs positively reviewed this and even had a meeting about developing mobile student IDs. Also, we are planning to calculate a suitable budget for the Financial Committee by having an additional consultation with the Electronic Information Center. The Electronic Information Center will take care of the actual data, the personal information and a conclusive estimate. In this case, as the server and database are already on the CBNU server for the processing of mobile student IDs, the risk for personal information and other important data leakage will be excluded.

I saw the pledge about having discussions with the student council on the leaflet for Gong Gam. As I know, discussions with the student council have not ever been implemented before, so I¡¯m so curious about how they will proceed. - Bae Seong-min(¡¯14, Dept. of Russian Language and Literature)

You may feel it grand when hearing about having a discussion with the student council. In the case of a practical debate, when something important happens on campus, we have the intention to discuss it with the members of CBNU to find out what they think. When there is nothing important going on, we will have a talk show for students who have time to spare. Avoiding exam periods, the debate will be held at the Gaesin Cultural Center or a small theater in building E3. Also, we will actively encourage students to participate in the debate. We will make time to communicate our opinions about significant matters with the students.
