The Changes in CBNU-RC for Freshmen
Á¦ 187 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2019.09.02

Freshmen who are not familiar with RC felt discomfort about RC because of a huge volume of promotional RC text messages that were sent in hot summer with a sound ¡®ti-ring¡¯. Moreover, there has been several negative postings about RC, mostly written by freshmen in the CBNU student mobile application, ¡®Every Times¡¯ such as ¡®I don¡¯t want RC sends messages to me.¡¯, ¡®It must be that the filling rate is not good.¡¯, ¡®we are losing a lot of time¡¯ and ¡®It has little of benefit¡¯. One student, who is taken the messages, bluntly said ¡®I was annoyed by the RC text in hot summer vacation.¡¯ Then what is RC? RC is abbreviation of Residential College. Literally the reason for making RC is to help freshmen who live in the school dormitory by offering several group activities. Then how about freshmen¡¯s mind? Do they have positive mind or negative mind? The answer is both of them. According to survey, 431 who participated RC programs in the first semester of 2019, only 333 of 431 made final complete. After asking for an opinion to them, I can hear a positive and negative opinion about RC. The freshman who completed RC has positive opinions about RC common programs, autonomous programs, team activities and contests. Kim Min-ji, a 19-year-old freshmen of free major who topped the program RC, said ¡°When I become a university student, I want to learn and experience many things, but It is hard to participate a lot by myself. It is because I couldn¡¯t take classes from private institutes for free. However, RC can offer these classes for free, so I could participate in them now. The classes were also informative and there were many places where we could get close to student who has other major.¡± On the other hand,  Most of freshmen who expressed their negative opinions of RC said that they were unable to participate in the RC program frequently due to their tight classes and schedules. For this reason, they can¡¯t get the 100,000won deposit back again. To sum up their opinions, First of all, They said it is hard to focus on RC program with their tight major schedule. One student said tight class schedule and major class made they can¡¯t attend RC program more activity. So, he was upset he didn¡¯t receive the 100000 won mortage back. Second, The complain with the team activity program. One student, said ¡®The RC¡¯s benefits are also too small and team work is essential but I don¡¯t like members who are automatically chosen. Another freshman who majors Life sciences said, ¡°Our team was pretty good, but there were a lot of teams that I felt not so good. So I think the deviation was severe.¡± Third, there is a complaint from the students who do not live in the dormitory because they are not allowed to participate in RC programs, which make them to think unfair. One student said ¡°I couldn¡¯t apply for RC because I don¡¯t live in a dormitory, but I heard it was hard around me. Once I have wanted to participate in RC, I don¡¯t understand why only dorm students can attend.¡± Such negative opinions are spreading among freshmen.

As a result, the filling rate of RC in the second semester was difficult and the vicious circle was repeated by this situation. In this situation, RC Creative Convergence Education Center has changed its existing program for autonomous in disguise by collecting the opinions of the existing students. First, the new courses that freeweight and Graphic National Accreditation Certificate, have been added to the autonomous program and will also increase incentives for excellent students. It will be also changed thing that the expansion of cultural experience areas. These changes are expected to reduce the time burden for the students. Second, Change team activities autonomously. Students are also free to choose their team members. The cost of team activities has greatly increased from 100,000 won to 300,000 won. Third, new students who did not enter the dormitory could participate. Afterwards, it announced that it plans to carry out the program with a total of 500 people.

To get the details, we interviewed Lim Ye-bin, an official at RC Originality Fusion Education Center. She said ¡°RC education programs are composed of various kinds of Calligraphy, computer certificate, and futsal in consideration of students' interests and those are continuously improving. It is a college-wide education project for freshmen, so it requires a lot of attention and participation from students. I hope freshmen can participate in RC training, which is open to freshmen only, and improve their value and capabilities through creative future design.¡± Additionally she added to the explanation of the RC program.  It is comprised of ¡®common programs¡¯ that everyone in RC must participate in, ¡®autonomous programs¡¯ that they take according to their wishes, and ¡®team activities¡¯ in which RC students perform topical activities together, helping us to build basic skills as well as learning skills for our college¡¯s freshmen. The RC training program is operated in the evening unlike the regular curriculum, and students are given a variety of incentives such as one credit and additional points for entering dormitory.

As mentioned earlier, RC education is operated in the evening unlike regular curriculum, so there is no need to worry about overlapping with the major timetable. The following is a timetable for the RC program.
  Pilates[every Monday, Wednesday 7:30 ~ 8:30] Freeweight[every Tuesday, Thursday 7:30 ~ 8:30] Forest healing [10. 11(Friday) - 12(Saturday)] Chorus [every Tuesday 19:00 ~ 21:00] Calligraphy[every Tuesday 19:00 ~ 21:00]  Level 2 Certification for Computer Utilization [every Monday 19:00 ~ 21:00] GTQ [every Wednesday 19:00 ~ 21:00] Footshall [every Thursday 19:00 ~ 21:00]
Sign language [every Wednesday 19:00 ~ 21:00] coffe and talk [every monday 19:00 ~ 21:00] watching movies[every friday 18:30 ~ 20:30] cultural performance [in october]contest(UCC, Team Activity Portfolio, Backpacking travel)

As above, participation in RC needed a lot of time and passion. But It is also true that participants can get  new experiences and build up the spec. Moreover, the new RC changed the program to reduce the burden of participants in the second semester by reflecting the negative opinions. In closing, I want this article to help the freshmen who have troubled to participate in CBNU-RC which has changed the system now.
