Last November, saw the 53rd General Student Council election to select those who would lead in the year 2021. Symbol CROSS ran as the sole candidate for the student council. CBT reporter examined the election process and organized their pledges through interviews with candidates for the student council.

From November 12 to 24, 2020, the 53rd General Student Council election campaign, which will be responsible for the year 2021, was held. On November 19, at 7:00 p.m., the student council, and the student welfare committee¡¯s campaign headquarters held a policy debate with the student council via SNS (Instagram, Facebook) and ZOOM video conference. After a 13-day campaign rally, the vote was carried out by electronic voting from Nov. 25-26. The election results were released at 8 p.m. on November 26 and CROSS was elected.
The candidates for CROSS, were Oh Tae-young (¡¯15, Dept. of Political Science and Diplomacy), and Park Myung-hoon(¡¯16, Dept. of Information and Communication Engineering). CROSS means that they will serve as a crosswalk for communication between students and school authorities. Also, it has the meaning of ¡®X¡¯ to oppose the wrong existing customs by converging ¡®+¡¯ and creating a constructive student society. CROSS has put forward the slogan ¡®Proud to Belong¡¯ as its key value point to enhance its sense of belonging and self-esteem in schools. The second concept of value is ¡®CROSS our limits¡¯, which is the courage to challenge without being complacent. CROSS analyzed the pledges of past student councils and made pledges in 2021. They said that if the COVID-19 situation is eased, it will continue to provide an introduction of additional on-campus bus routes, which began in 2018, and they would continue the move-carrying project called ¡®We will move the luggage instead of CBNU¡¯ under the name of ¡®Jim Carrey Business: We¡¯ll move your luggage instead¡¯. They also pledged to improve the application process at CBNU, gradually open the second library 24 hours a day, and simplifying the launching ceremony of the student council. At 18:30 on the 17th, through a joint interview each newspaper company, we helped our classmates make correct judgments and encouraged them to vote based on their understanding of the campaign headquarters. CBT reporter found out more about the pledges through this interview.

1. What do you think of the overall course of activities and fulfillment of their pledge of the Doyak Student Council in the CROSS?
Despite the difficulty of carrying out pre-prepared projects due to the sudden COVID-19 incident, the Doyak Student Council made efforts for the rights and interests of its classmates through the improvement of the overall system, including the life-long priest system and the computerization of application for an excess lecture. It also drew positive reviews by allowing students to enjoy cultural benefits even in non-face-to-face situations such as ¡®online communication festival¡¯.

2. You said you will maintain the core values of the student council, ¡®continuity¡¯ and ¡®developmentalism¡¯, using Doyak as a role model, but if there is a business that will be lost next year, what is it and why?
The core value of the student council lies in the development of the student society. It is important to steadily fulfill the student council¡¯s pledge for the continuity and development of the student society after overcoming the one-year term. We will focus on taking over and implementing the Doyak Student Council project rather than on the project that will be lost. The company will continue to carry out its pledges, including ¡®desk with attached chair replacement project¡¯ that began in 2019, the TOEIC test, and the maintenance of the Korean history test.

3. You said you would open an EMS homepage, so please explain the exact contents.
It will open a new homepage apart from the existing one. Unlike the existing homepage, which has a mixture of curriculum and non-subject areas, it will only allow users to see information on non-subject areas such as mentor programs and volunteer activities. Currently, the school administration department has made the Beta version and will collect opinions from classmates to improve it.

4. There is a pledge to gradually push for the opening of the new building of the Central Library 24 hours a day. Where do you plan to supplement additional budgets such as labor costs when school finances are reduced compared to face-to-face classes?
The plan to gradually open the new building 24 hours a day has been changed to a partial opening due to the spread and prevention of the COVID-19. As a result, the library will be gradually opened 24 hours a day again to address the many complaints of classmates who cannot use the library freely. If the COVID-19 is prolonged next year, we will adopt a method through the introduction of the Central Steering Committee¡¯s work system, as is currently being implemented by the Doyak Student Council. As a result of inquiring the library, if the COVID-19 is eased next year, the first and second floors can be operated until midnight, and the third and fourth floors can also be operated until 10:00 p.m.

Due to the prolonged COVID-19, the election was conducted by electronic voting instead of direct voting. This was not the first time, since online voting was first implemented in 2018, resulting in a 20 percent increase in voter turnout. As there were many non-face-to-face lectures due to COVID-19, it was feared that the turnout may fall, but it recorded a high voter turnout of 52%, showing the power of online voting. CBT applauds the CROSS, which has done its best in the election campaign, and the students who voted for it. Also, the elected CROSS hopes to fulfill many pledges based on the faith of its classmates.
