TOEIC Program on Campus, Studentsʼ Participation is Important
Á¦ 216 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2024.06.03

Students who are interested in the Test Of English for International Communication (TOEIC) program on campus, can now take the test on the CBNU campus. Since May 26, the TOEIC test was offered in the N14 Humanities and Social Studies Center at CBNU. Also, CBNU students qualify for a 10% discount when they register for the test which is only 43,200 KRW compared to the original price of 45,000 KRW.
The Deputy Director of External Cooperation of the CBNU student council, Hong Ye-eun (Dept. of Biochemistry, 21), promoted TOEIC on campus saying ¡°I thought that it was inefficient for students to undergo a cumbersome commute in order to take the TOEIC exam which is a requirement to get a job or enter graduate school. Furthermore, taking an exam in a familiar place will be conducive to students getting good grades. Moreover, according to the survey that the CBNU student council took from March 27 to 31, about 96% of respondents indicated that they wanted to take the TOEIC test on campus. I am so glad because even though the procedure of cooperation and introducing a system had some challenges, we ended up successfully establishing a TOEIC test site on campus within this first semester. I sincerely hope this outcome will be beneficial to students who want to do well on the TOEIC exam and get a good job or enter graduate school.¡±
The Dean of the Office of International Affairs (OIA), Prof. You Tae-soo (Dept. of Chemistry), who coordinated with the CBNU student council on this project said, ¡°The OIA has been striving to enhance students¡¯ English skills since it was established. Especially, the OIA thought that the attraction of TOEIC tests on campus could be a good chance to enhance CBNU students¡¯ English skills. Thus, we decided to cooperate with the CBNU student council. For the accomplishment of this project, since Jan. we negotiated with the YBM company about the potential benefits for students through taking TOEIC tests on campus. In addition, we discussed with the related departments on campus the certification of students to qualify for the benefits that are available to them. Consequently, the TOEIC exam on campus was initiated, and discussion about benefits for CBNU students will continue.¡± He added, ¡°In addition to the TOEIC exam, there are various programs available on campus including a simulation of the TOEIC, LEVEL-UP English camp for enhancing English skills. Please participate in those programs.¡±
A CBT reporter investigated the opinion of student who has taken the TOEIC test at CBNU. Oh Chae-hyun (Dept. of English Language and Literature, 24) said ¡°In the past, I have taken the TOEIC test in other places. Taking the test in a strange place, I had trouble finding my test room. In addition, there are many designated test location, like middle or high school classrooms that younger students have been using in which I felt uncomfortable to take the test. However, by taking this TOEIC test in CBNU, I was able to take the test without feeling any environmental burden and inconvenience. The TOEIC exam requires students to solve many questions for 2 hours. That¡¯s why students prefer comfortable places over strange ones. Thanks to taking the test in familiar and comfortable place, I could finish this TOEIC test to the best of my ability.¡±
The student council emphasized that students¡¯ active participation is essential to ensure the continued possibility of taking TOEIC tests on campus. Therefore, students need to become more interested in this program in order to continue to enjoy the benefits it offers.
