[Human Rights of Criminals]Human Rights Or Security: That Is the Question
Á¦ 113 È£    ¹ßÇàÀÏ : 2009.12.15
Nowadays, crimes are increasing. As they change to malicious crimes, people discuss about punishment like releasing their personal information or locking them with an electric bracelet. People naturally start to argue about whether the criminals¡¯ civil rights should be protected or not. Do you think we have to respect the murderers¡¯ and sexual criminals¡¯ human rights? Should we regard those who infringed the law and did illegal things as human?
When humans are born, they have human rights. Human rights are basic rights which many societies believe that all people should have. There are many human rights, and they include the right to life. Therefore, human rights of criminals like murderers or sexual criminals don¡¯t need to be protected because they violate other people¡¯s rights.
In society, the group members¡¯ welfare is more important than the individual. In the group, kindhearted people¡¯s human rights are more important than the rights of a few people who disobey the law. There is a saying, ¡°One rotten apple spoils the barrel.¡± We should esteem nice people¡¯s personal rights to maintain a good society. Therefore, our society chooses to punish criminals. The punishment methods are releasing criminals¡¯ personal information or locking them with electric bracelet among others. They disregard human rights, but it is unavoidable.
Committing a crime means giving up one¡¯s personal rights. Do we have to require mercy for offenders? Criminals must be punished. To be sure, there will be first offenders and career criminals. However, if we reduce minor offense¡¯s penalties, we can¡¯t punish more severe crimes fairly. As for what crime they committed, there will be  little difference in punishment, but we must deprive offender¡¯s civil rights.
