Chungbuk National University has begun to pilot 'Electronic Attendance-Absence Recording Systems' in some major classes and the smaller liberal arts classes since the first term of this year.
 
Ahn Cheol-soo announced his candidacy in the coming presidential election. All eyes are focused on his movement because Ahn has been very popular with people aged 20 to 40 years old. Non-politicians' sorties into politics have often occurred so far.
 
Chungbuk National University signed a memorandum of understanding(MOU) with Ministry of Education, Science and Technology(MEST) on February 29th.

CBNU started a total amount budget system for 1 year, from March in 2011 to February in 2012, regarding the rates of electricity and telephone costs. As a result, electricity and telephone use has dropped by 7.1% in one year. In addition, 10 of 13 colleges decreased their energy use.
 
To lighten their financial burden, Giant General Students Association(GSA) opened the second-hand bookstore from March 7 to 9 in front of the New Student’s Hall.
 
Now, we are living in the age of globalization. Inspired by the Ministry of Education and Science Technology(MEST)’s international students promotion policy, the number of international students who reside within the country has been rapidly increasing, with continuous growth of double figures except last year.
 
This academic year, Chungbuk National University(CBNU) reduced tuition by 5.3%. In terms of money, an average of 120,000 won was cut in the total amount of each semester's tuition. The average tuition reduction ratio(ratio of reduced tuition) of 10 local major national universities was 5.35%, so CBNU’s tuition reduction ratio is similar to the averag.
 
Authorities issued a “Heat wave” warning last Sunday for the Chungbuk province. Nam In-mo, a 21-year-old student living in Cheongju, stayed in his house with only a fan. He said, “I took a shower to cool off.
 
Singer Hong Gyeongmin received his honorary diploma from CBNU

CBNU granted singer Hong Gyeongmin an honorary Bachelor's Degree in Political Science and Diplomacy at the 2011 graduation ceremony which was held on the 23rd of last month. Mr. Hong entered the department in 1995. However, he had to give up his studies because he went into the entertainment business as a singer when he was a sophomore. He has kept in touch with alumni, professors and students and actively participated in school events such as the Gaesin Festival even while having a heavy schedule in the entertainment business.
 
Cheongju's BIS, which was introduced at the end of 2005, will be replaced. According to a survey on the old BIS in Cheongju City, 61% of citizens were satisfied with the old system last year, but other people wanted to improve the old system.
 
In comemoration of the Social Enterprise Festival, students performed the Nanta which is a non-verbal performance integrates Korea's traditional rhythm, Samulnori, with comedy.
 
The Chungbuk University National Education Center(N2) is scheduled to be opened with students' curiosity.
 
A total of 63 clubs have been established in CBNU. There are various kinds of clubs from volunteer work clubs to academy clubs. The clubs are located in the former student hall and 12 dong.
 
Broadcasters(MBC, KBS, YTN) have come out on strike because the broadcasters’ presidents, who were appointed by the government, put pressure on many programs that criticise government policies.

The General Students Association(GSA) made a primary report on Oct. 17th about whether they fulfilled their election pledges. 52% of the 28 election pledges are finished. 32% of the election pledges are ongoing and 11% are unexecuted.
 
CBNU invited Park Kyung-chul for Omnibus Liberal Lectures.
 
Many students visit the Chungbuk National University(CBNU) Library to use the reading room. However, the number of students who don't keep the basic manners is increasing. They do not return seats and leave garbage on desks.
